BROWNLOW medallist Adam Cooney is to make his comeback from injury in a VFL scratch match on Friday.

If Cooney gets through training this week, the Western Bulldogs plan to ease him back with about 60 minutes of game time in Williamstown's VFL practice match at Whitten Oval.

The Dogs will play Fremantle at Bunbury, two hours south of Perth, on Saturday but will leave Cooney at home.

"It is a matter of not taking the risk. He was only going to have a light run anyway," the Bulldogs' football manager, James Fantasia, said.

A brief run for Willy wouldn't hurt him (hopefully)

Will there be many other Dogs-listed players in this game?

You'd think so, however perhaps the plan will be to rest a few of the older blokes so there might not be as many kids left to choose from.

Here's hoping for a solid run from Cooney. I'm happy for him to slowly build up with one eye (or part thereof) on September/October, but we really need him in top form this year, consistently.
