View Full Version : Disappointing Crowd

I expected there would be at least 45,000 there yesterday, but unfortunately our supporters do not stick with us through thick and thin. The crowd of just under 40,000 to me is very disappointing. The row I sit in on level 2, aisle 31 was empty, usually full.
OK, we lost three in a row, but playing a younger team at Etihad gave us a big chance, surely we could have been supported more. Tiger fans were everywhere. (later seen ripping up membership cards :D)

I thought the crowd was reasonable, with the most notable area being the Medallion Club was nearly empty. It's all pre-sold, but if they don't turn up the overall crowd figure is down. If they showed up the figure would have been 45,000.

The gaps in the forward pocket at our end was a disgrace, was there any reason for that?

Majority of that Bay is basiclly general admission or " BACKYARD BULLDOGS" MOST of those seats aren't reserved IIRC

After a good win I would just relax and enjoy the win :) Positive energy please. Don't start bragging our supporters.

Was down Richmonds end. Was horrid. I do wish we were more vocal, but I think those Richmond fans go over the top a bit too much... when you're 50 points down, shut upppppp.

The Ferals were everywhere! Having said that they don't like Etihad as a rule, every clb is the same just take a look at Stkilda's next home game.I thought 40 was pretty reasonable personally

I got into a heated debate on the Riewoldt charity with one of the Ferals.
Said it was a free, I claimed he dived.

They're awful supporters. Who'll ever forget the spitting and abuse Frawley's family got!
Just read that abomination Punt Rd End having a crack at our fans not turning up.
Vividly recall low feral count in the last couple of years when playing them.
Two finals series in 30 years, and they're having a crack at our crap history!
Finally special thanks for taking Jordan and handing us Callan Ward.

I actually thought of you at the time, wondering if you thought it ran in the family. ;)

Level 2, aisle 31 - great spot that. Were you there for the Rock of Ages gig? The view was great from there!!!
Crowds are always lower on Sunday afternoon, compared to Friday and Saturday nights. It just makes commuting to and from the game that much easier with a smaller crowd.

I too was disappointed with the crowd and certainly when the Tiges kicked a goal, the whole arena seemed to erupt! I was trying to gee the supporters around me up, there seems to be a portion of them who only cheer when we are leading by lots and lots. They all went quiet with the Tiges came back at us especially in the 3rd quarter. I reckon that's when you have to be more vocal and supportive of your team - perhaps I'm just an old fashioned kind of barracker?

We are an introverted bunch of supporters. And when failure looks imminent, as it did early in 3rd qtr, we retreat further into our shells. We don't get louder and brasher like clubs who've known a lot of success.

Our lack of maybe 'premeirship' success shouldn't make a huge amount of difference though.
What success has Richmond achieved in the last.....however long, to make them carry on the way that they did yesterday? Nothing.

I stand around the wing area (Bulldogs member side) most games rather than sitting. Just prefer to be on my feet.
You're always going to notice the crowd shouting at you more so than shouting from amongst you in terms of a roar, but there was some good spirit shown through the day from the area I was in, especially when Murphy goaled.
Sunday game, with us playing poorly through the season was always going to mean a smaller crowd. Thank god we weren't playing North or GC/any other interstate club.

THen he started chanting "Set Top Box"

As long as we don't have to pay Collo I'm happy. I'm at the "Footscray End". When Essendon play their home games they change the names of the ends to Lloyd and Coleman - why can't we change ours to Templeton and Beasley or Barkly St and Geelong Rd?

Well, this doesn't happen every day:
2016:
R1: WB versus Fremantle @ Etihad (on a Sunday afternoon)- 27,382
R14: Collingwood versus Fremantle @ MCG (Friday night)- 20,320
Maybe with such a poor crowd and being a terrible spectacle the league should leave them out of Friday night calculations for a few years like they did with us?
Anyone know our Etihad average crowd numbers compared to the other tenants?

You would hope our numbers might improve by 15% or so next year.

You'd think that some of those swarms of bulldog supporters that suddenly appeared in the last couple of weeks might be tempted to take out a membership and get onboard for the good times coming.
We should market ourselves to supporters abandoning Hawthorns bandwagon.
