CHRISTIAN Howard was described as a left-footed Lindsay Gilbee when the Western Bulldogs gambled on him with its first pick in the 2009 national draft.
How ironic then that the 20-year-old was selected to make his AFL debut on the same night the Dogs made the emphatic statement to drop Gilbee, just two weeks after booting six goals against Richmond.

Why? I personally don't really pay too much attention where they are from.

Because T and T loves his SA boys.
And we love T and T for the inside words he gives us on them :D.

Intersting that both play outside, is that a common theme amongst Sth Aussies? ;)

Solid first game , did what he could in the circumstances , quiet in the second half , only 11 possessions in a game where really there was undue amount of pressure on him
For mine he is Gilbee's replacement in the side , Gilbee can stay on the bench

Howie became the 951st Bulldog player since we entered the league in 1925.

From what I saw, two poor kicks but the rest of his game was very good, he put three kicks on the forwards heads but sadly they couldnt catch a cold yesterday.
Also hit the ball (and the man) pretty hard a few times.
Definitely worth giving him a few games in a row to find his feet.

Agree totally. When he hit the contest hard in the last quarter was a game highlight for me.

Those two laser kicks over about 50m to Lake and Hall were brilliant. Too bad they didn't finish off this good work.
He also tried to do the team thing and square a ball rather than having a ping from 50.
Good signs, though. The commentators were quite complimentary.

How good is it to see a left-footer in the side, playing on a wing with a penetrating roost on him? We will see a lot more of him. I reckon there might have been one Recruitment Manager who slept well last night
While on the subject of kicking I thought Hawthorn were outstanding yesterday, better than any side I have seem for a long time. It was only when they went off the boil with their kicks that we were able to get back in the game.

Their first half kicking display was absolutely A-grade. Our work rate (or lack of) helped them find loose targets but I have never felt so helpless watching a team cutting us up with their disposal.

Yeah I thought we lifted a bit of pressure on the ball carrier (or actually put pressure on the ball carrier) that started causing them to spray a few of their kicks. Their kicking was sublime yesterday.
Is it any coincidence that we were once an elite kicking team, Leon Cameron goes to Hawthorn and now they are elite and we are crap?

I think you'll find they were a very skillful kicking side well before Leon Cameron got there.

Yeah...good left foot and straight reliable kicker to his target

Seems to be playing well within his capabilities - took a few short options against St Kilda.
Once he gets a few more games under his belt and the gain in confidence that comes with it we'll see him unleash the left boot a bit more.

he does balance himself very well before he kicks. Trying to not hype him up too much as that's what happened to Gillbee and every time they would start touting him as an elite kicker on TV, he'd shank the thing.
