WHAT'S GONE RIGHT: Skipper Matthew Boyd, Bob Murphy and Ryan Griffen have been good, and Callan Ward has jumped up as a tough on-baller. Coach Rodney Eade is getting some game time into debutants Mitch Wallis and Tom Liberatore and more experience for Liam Jones up forward.
WHAT'S GONE WRONG: All-Australians Brian Lake, Barry Hall and Adam Cooney have been hampered by injuries and scarcely played. Toss in Ben Hudson's inability to make an impact and you have a dreadful recipe.
THE COACH: In the last year of a contract, Eade has been hit by a crop of injuries and absentees. He has a 55 per cent win rate over 14 years to back him, but he is vulnerable.
SURPRISE: Most observers had them challenging again after three consecutive preliminary finals, but they are unlikely to make the top eight.
DISAPPOINTMENT: Eade had a handful of bright, young players who he needed to take another step. But Ayce Cordy is still making his way and Jarrad Grant has failed to deliver on promise, at least so far.
THE STAT: The Bulldogs rank 15th for tackles inside 50, averaging eight per match.
THE DRAW: Three more interstate trips, and matches against Carlton and Hawthorn of the top four.
STATS: Champion Data
