Sad to hear of the passing of former Doggies speed machine, wingman Denis Collins. Played 100 games for Footscray before being "sold" to Carlton in 1977.
Died of a heart attack in WA on Wednesday. No other details at this stage.
Condolences to his family and friends.

Gee, that is a bit of a shock, he wouldn't have been what 60 years old?

Very sad.
Played cricket with him at Footscray United a long time ago. A good lad.

He'd have been 57-58. A year or so younger than me, and I'm not 60 yet. Very sad.

I was really angry when he left us to go to Carlton, but then we lost a lot of good players due to the rabble of an administration we had.
Condolences to his family, so young to die.

I most remember him getting smacked in the face by Robbie Muir in the opening credits to Seven's Big League.

He bought the Beard to Footscray - the only other impressive beard I can remember was Jim McAllister the full back

Chris Hansen had a nice beard in the early 80's as well.

Ian Low had a pretty cool beard going in the early 80s, IIRC.

Denis was managing a hotel in WA where his father-in-law was the licensee. He was one of 33 since the 1940's to play League football from the Braybrook Football Club where he was named in their Team of the Century. His late father Jack Collins played for Essendon and Fitzroy in the early 50's.

Boy, his death must have passed me by. Still got his footy card. I didn't realize that he went to Richmond in 1980, played 17 games and was set to play in the Grand Final. Unfortunately he was missed attending an appointment with the club psychologist leading up to the big one so was dropped by Tony Jewell.
Great article here about his life in Western Australia. Must have been a very colourful character.

It's probably already been mentioned but it's Denis Collins that Robbie Muir coward punches in that bit of footage that 7 used to play. I think it's in the Up There Cazaly film clip. Because that's the sort of thing we want to celebrate.

Bad, sad news. Denis Collins was a very fine player. Had pace to burn and was a beautiful kick, especially on the run. I was very disappointed when he went to Carlton. Vale Denis. Too young to go. Condolences to family and friends.

I think his brother played as well. His dad too. Weird that dad played at Essendon though.
