Re: AFL Game Day Finals 2022
It's holding the ball because he basically bounced it whilst being tackled.
Re: AFL Game Day Finals 2022
I will give props to Petracca, who was obviously incredibly brave to be playing, and was actually very infuential at stoppages and forward of centre. He was easily their best player when he had no right to be.
The rest of them can GAGF. Having said that, we had the chance to get silverware last year against that mob and fluffed our lines spectacularly, which still irks me far more than the satisfaction of seeing Melbourne fail in 2022.
A lot of bouquets for Berry and rightly so, but Zorko was also very good last night - was a night of vindication for him after copping it relentlessly from 90% of fans and 99% of the meedya the last couple of weeks.
Re: AFL Game Day Finals 2022
Brisbanes tackling pressure was immense and what a difference it makes when you play as a team. The longer the game went on, the more gelled and focused they became. If they bring that team mentality and aggressive tackling, then the cats might be shocked next week.

I don't get this Mike. He just put the ball on the ground while being tackled. You just can't do that, it's cut and dry.

If I had a small fracture in one of my leg bones I'd be off work for 6 weeks. That's crazy courage, if a bit reckless.

Pretty ordinary what Zorko said and I wouldn't be overjoyed hearing one of our players say it, but the over the top reaction to that was ridiculous. It was like he'd shot Bambi's mother.

This is in reference to McCarthy and “tissues Petty”.
"I didn't see, but I'd be pretty disappointed if that was the case," Goodwin said.
"That's not really our issue. That's their issue. It's their footy club. If that's how they want to act, then it's up to them. That's not how we act at our footy club."
But it fully is the way they act at their footy club? Or did I imagine like 5 guys going at Mitch Hannan for having the nerve to play twos last year. Or Steve May paying out his own team mates for the same thing.
Whatever. Hopefully this is the end of this Melbourne being good nonsense and they can get back to losing on purpose with teams made up of VAFA players.

I've just watched it again...I still don't think it's holding the ball. I think he gathered the ball and was tackled immediately (no prior) to ground and the ball effectively jarred free. He then stood up and knocked the ball clear - he was no longer being tackled.
I can see what you're saying I guess but if he just held the footy in would it have been htb??

Anyone else notice how slow Lever is?

He's not a great defender. He's the best reader of the play in the game. Watch him live, it's insane how well he anticipates where it's going.
He's an A grade flog, but he's talented.

I love these technical ones. I think I get where you're coming from.
Prior goes out the window if you don't legally dispose of it. 18.6.3(b) is your contention, that it was jarred out.
My memory was he placed it on the ground. But I need to see it again.
18.6.3Free Kicks - Holding the Ball: Incorrect Disposal
Where a Player in Possession of the Football has not had Prior Opportunity, a field
Umpire shall award a Free Kick if that Player elects to Incorrectly Dispose of the football
when Legally Tackled.
For the avoidance of doubt, a Player does not elect to Incorrectly Dispose of the
football when:
(a)the Player genuinely attempts to Correctly Dispose of the football;
(b)the Legal Tackle causes the football to be dislodged from the Player’s possession

Edit: To augment this, I've just searched through the rules document and I can't find any mention of bouncing when tackled being illegal. I assume it comes under incorrect disposal; I thought they'd have a clear definition though. TIL.

Yep. Clearly you imagined it like the rest of us.

Fair enough. To me I think it's incorrect disposal or whatever it's called. Cheers.

The injury to Oliver's face actually occurred last week against Sydney - he was sent off multiple times with blood coming from a wound just under the same eye that Berry allegedly touched.

Can you please tell that to BAD? He keeps going on about not knowing what the free was for.
Re: AFL Game Day Finals 2022
No need for this celebration from the Demons lads last night. ;)

Haha that is truly funny. When I looked back at the replay, he clearly placed the ball on the ground whilst he was being tackled.
The Kevin Barlett rule that is often not paid because umpires don't get it.
PS: I asked the question originally to Easternwest and he was the only one on WOOF to not answer me :D
