Not bad, I thought it'd be a bit better, but we need to keep winning apparently. Hopefully there's many, many more who sign up tonight, Good Friday at Etihad and Round 5 at Etihad which may attract extras turning up.

I'm just a bit disappointed by that although we are setting new records for the club.
I'm guessing here but I think 50K might be a bit too far too reach for. I think we might get to around 47,000

Peter said in 1989 when he took over we had 3000. 50k does sound like a bit of a reach now.

yeah a bit disappointed too. Looks like there were a lot of "fans" out there who just wanted to jump on for the finals ride but not commit further. I'm not suggesting that everyone is capable of being a member, but the turnouts we saw in grand final week and for the celebrations would suggest we could have reached 50k.

I think last years results enforced the need for our members to jump on early and make sure getting finals tickets wouldn't be an issue again. With that in mind it means that we probably got off to a fast start but there was always going to be a lull unless we have attracted significantly more members.
Still we should be looking at how much it helps the club to have our members commit early. I'm very confident we will break records this year and hopefully record a bumper profit result.
Re: Membership 2017 - Target 50,000
This time last year we were 30,753 and ended up close to 40k.
Re: Membership 2017 - Target 50,000
Maybe when we play at Ballarat, more locals sign up in good numbers too. Or better yet, sell them out.

Yes, we had nearly 10K sign up after the season started. I wouldn't expect those sorts of numbers to repeat again but if you said we would improve 10 or 15% on last years numbers I would have thought that was a great result.

I think in previous years we got about 5k after round 1 (prior to last year), so if we get to 45/47 that would be good. Still disappointing, considering we are premiers. What else do supporters want - no excuses left.

We have record coterie memberships and we've almost covered last years total membership numbers so it's going to be a great season for the club. We probably have done very well with our sponsorship levels as well.
We need to be patient on our push to 50K because it was always likely to take more than one great season to attract enough new members etc.
If we can keep the wins up we will get another spike.

Social membership sold out, SC waiting list monies and increase in reserved seating too. The financial return should be good, unless we end up at 50,000 then it's frustrating that many, many fans choose not to be members.

Has any established club recorded a 25% jump on the previous year in recent years because it was always going to be a huge ask?
There will be a level of complacency now that some deem the job has been done but if we are to become a power we still need people to continue to dig as deep as they can and for new members to come on board. That won't change after one great year.
I get that it's a bit frustrating but if we take some emotion out of it then the result so far looks strong.

No doubt it's good, it will be a new record. But it may not be as good as it should be. 5,000 fans at GF training, 100,000+ Fans at the parade, 30,000+ fans/members at the GF, 25,000 fans at the WO the day after. I think it's safe to say that a good numbers of fans who celebrated in the occasion are not signing up. That's regrettable.
Re: Membership 2017 - Target 50,000
I looked at the figures a while back and the Cats and the Hawks recorded 25% increases in the seasons after their drought breaking 2007 and 2008 premierships. We are in line with them.
Re: Membership 2017 - Target 50,000
I was shocked to hear PG say we only had 3000 members in 1989. I had no idea things were that bad. Not surprising they tried to merge us, really (blasphemy I know!)
