Does that sound right?

Great news. Up yours pies. Behaved disgraceful during this trade period. Should be ashamed of how they treated ‘one of their own’

Luckily for everyone else he was re-elected unopposed in February for a couple more years.

I'm just glad it's sorted and now Treloar can move forward with his life and be a a Western Bulldogs player.

I'd love it if he got 35 touches, kicked 5 goals and won a Norm Smith in a Bulldog premiership team. Especially if it happened to be the year Collingwood are paying the highest amount of his wages over his contract.
But I'm not really choosy. It can be any of the years he plays with us.

Re: Welcome to the Westernbulldogs Adam Treloar
Great work from all involved, it’s not that long back we would have caved in to The Pies demands.
For that matter it’s not that long back we wouldn’t have had the kahunas to have a crack at the trade period we have had.

Re: Welcome to the Westernbulldogs Adam Treloar
Now that all that is settled....How will the dogs use Treloar next season?
How will this be different to his role at the Pies?

Ruck, obviously.

They treated Treloar absolutely terribly in the trade period and I'm glad that we held firm on their bullshit.

It was appalling. The things they said about him starting with blaming his wife, then comments around senior players don't want him, was just atrocious.

WRONG - it's about time the narrative started favouring them again after the draft, I was getting worried their abhorrent behaviour might have affected them long term, but I'm getting a bit more comfortable about it now and you and your type just need to play along thanks very much.
Eddie is an amazing president, having past players like Tony Shaw as your media acolytes/ spokes persons is a genuine winner as well.

Yeah trading in heavily to a draft where on 50 guys were picked and where no one actually saw most of the players play for over a year is a great move and totally offsets trading out multiple best 22 players for nothing. Because AFL is all about being potentially good later instead of actually good now.

What I never understood is why it mattered what each club was doing - don't we have 3 million to structure over 5 years, and they have 1.5 million to structure over 5 years? They're separate contracts so why do we have to front end the contract at all?
Couldn't we just pay our 600k per year, and if the Pies chose to pay 0, 0, 500k, 500k, 500k then that's their choice/problem?

AT might have had a problem with that, esp if he has financial obligations that he needs to cover in the first few years of his new deal with us. Unfortunately in the real world, you can back end everything and hope it works out.

Clearly Collingwood needed some agreement from us to help them out of a big hole. Possibly they are at their limit for 2021 due to the Beams debacle, meaning we are probably funding the whole $900K next year, but getting some relief over the remainder.
It might even give us an extra $100K to massage into contracts for Bont/Baz/Dunks for the following years

Why settle for that in only one of his years?

What would make it sweeter is us winning the next five flags and Collingwood being the runner up each time.

Interestingly The Age reporting Pies are paying 1 over 5, not 1.5.
https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/...11-p56mtl.html
One month after Adam Treloar was traded from Collingwood to the Western Bulldogs an agreement has been reached that will see close to $1 million of the midfielder's contract carried in the Magpies' salary cap over the next five years.
Industry sources said it is unclear exactly how the Magpies will distribute the money - which amounts to an average of about $200,000 per year

Re: Welcome to the Westernbulldogs Adam Treloar
As long as we don’t pay anymore than 600k a year over 5, Collingwood can chop it up all they like.

It suggests we are paying 700 to me?

Unless Treloar is taking a slight pay cut ($600,000 & $200,000). If his manager stuffed up, there might be some fine details about fee waiving too, adding to Treloar’s bottom line which if 10% would get him to around $900,000. The article doesn’t say we are paying more, just that Collingwood is paying $200,000.

All the reporting this week has suggested the Bulldogs have held firm and won't be paying anything more than what we agreed to at the time of the trade.

The problem with this, is that we don't and won't really know.
Until player contracts are public we are required to assume that every club is treated fairly by the league administration.
Hard to expect trust when they continue to act secretly.

No disagreement from me. Transparency of contracts is long overdue.

Re: Welcome to the Westernbulldogs Adam Treloar
I suspect that the figures being mentioned are vastly closer to the 300K a season average than what the Age have reported but there has to be a fair chance we have conceded a bit otherwise there wouldn't have been any delays with getting the deal completed earlier.
It really doesn't matter now, Treloar will be playing with us, the Pies will be contributing a substantial amount and the challenge for the footy department is to come up with one of the strongest and productive midfield units in the competition.

Yes this is pretty much the way I read it too. Even at 650 say, it's a very good outcome. Agree with all the above posts.

Re: Welcome to the Westernbulldogs Adam Treloar
"Not a cent over $600k" and "Pies will pay $1m" aren't necessarily incompatible statements. Maybe Treloar took a haircut?
At any rate, if the first report is correct and we're covering his entire salary this season, it could actually be a pretty prudent move from us. Will give us a little bit of extra cap room to re-sign some of the big fish when they come out of contract in the next few years.

And maybe the AFL helped close the gap or Treloar's management group waived their normal fee and the most likely scenario is that everyone conceded a bit to help clean up the mess.
We are unlikely to know just how this played out but given the differences in what has been reported supporters of all parties have had a win depending on what article they choose to accept.
At the moment Bulldog fans think we got him at a bargain, the Pies supporters might have received a face saving 500K concession and from a players perspective or people who believe in the theory that a contract is a contract Treloar hasn't lost a cent.
Perhaps it's just that a win, win...win outcome has been manufactured.

we actually don’t know if his total salary is $900 k per annum. Most of the estimates are from media reports
