Re: Player Contract Status
West re-signs for two more
Exciting first-year player Rhylee West has re-signed with the Western Bulldogs for two more seasons.
The 19-year-old – who was due to come out of contract at the end of 2020 – will now remain in red, white and blue until at least the end of 2022.
“I think we’re building something special in this playing group and I couldn’t miss the opportunity to be a part of it,” West said.
“I feel like I’ve been able to play some strong footy in the VFL and then to make my AFL debut against Fremantle was an amazing feeling.
“We’ve got a great bunch of boys here and I can’t wait for the next three years.”
West made his AFL debut against Fremantle in round 19, collecting 14 disposals and kicking a goal.
He has spent time in the midfield and up forward at VFL level for Footscray, averaging 20 disposals across his 14 games – including a 29-disposal, four-goal game last week against Essendon.
General Manager of List and Recruiting, Sam Power, said West had a bright future.
“Rhylee has really grown since joining the Club and it’s pleasing to lock him in for two more years,” Power said.
“He is competitive and hard at the ball, with the ability to burst away from stoppages. As a forward, he has also been able to provide pressure and impact the scoreboard.
“Rhylee handled himself really well in his first taste of AFL football, and has been strong at VFL level throughout the season.
“We’re excited about what he can produce in the years to come.”
West joined the Bulldogs with pick 26 in the 2018 NAB AFL Draft and is one of five father-son draftees on the Club’s list, alongside Lachie Hunter, Mitch Wallis, Tom Liberatore and Zaine Cordy.
He becomes the 14th player to re-sign at VU Whitten Oval in 2019.

Re: Player Contract Status
Great start Axe Man you have your first signing :)

Re: Player Contract Status
Various threads stuck and unstuck. Should I import a few of the old posts from the old thread? A few asked questions that hadn't been answered.
-
Re: Player Contract Status
Great news on West, Sam doing a great job so far.
Hope the club have an announcement on re-signing Bailey Dale very soon.
IMO Dicko to get another year on recent form and that will be about it.
-
Re: Player Contract Status
So by my count that’s 6 delistings/retirements (Webb, Roberts, Morris, Williams, Boyd, Picken; Williams possibly to the RL although you’d think he’ll get a better offer elsewhere). Is that enough room for our draft intake plus all these other guys we’re allegedly taking on, or does a hard call need to be made on Dicko?
We could be in a bit of a jam if all these offers are legit and we’re more of a destination club than we think we are.

As far as the questions over Buku go I am going to go with a standard 1 year rookie contract until the end of 2019 until someone can point me in the direction of evidence to the contrary.

Nice work Axe and a great first up signing. You and Sam are doing a great job

According to this he only has a one year contract
Other players are also listed here although not right up to date with latest signings.
I would love to see Baily Smith extended further.

I'd rather let a few players from other clubs down gently than constantly have them turn their backs on us.

Thanks BAD. I do refer to Zero Hanger and Footy Wire although I'm not sure they are 100% accurate (but then what source is?).

Re: Player Contract Status
Not sure it was ever reported in the media. But you'll have to take my word for it - Buku has 2 years.
PM if you like Axe Man.

Re: Player Contract Status
18 players out of contract at the end of next year seems bloody scary on paper.
I wouldn't mind seeing a few more locked in, potentially at cheaper prices before we become the powerhouse of the competition and their stocks rise too much more (Schache, Bailey Smith, and Lloyd would have to be the highest priority).
-
Re: Player Contract Status
From the outside looking in it appears we will be conservative and have minimal list changes which is slightly disappointing.

Im not too worried. It’s a lot, but not many must keeps.
Only Crozier, Schache and Bailey Smith are must keeps.

Young list that are performing ahead of expectations in many respects, I wouldn't want too much movement. As long as we keep who we want to keep.
We'll lose nobody from our best 22 this season and add 1 or 2 into it for 2020, I'd say we're well positioned.

Good perspective Mofra.
I will be looking with interest who else we re-sign.

Bevo really wants to hold the group together. Smart move if you have the right personnel, which I think we do. A couple of tweaks here and there and we can play finals for a few years.

Standard fare however, once the confusing selection process was sorted out we have played vastly better football which of course results in fewer list changes
Assuming we don't add Gardiner then potentially it's looking like Boyd, Picken, Morris, Roberts, R. Smith, Webb and Williams are unlikely to be playing next season and there might even be a question mark on Jong for next season and Dickson

I wouldn't be surprised to see Boyd, Pickin, Morris, Roberts, R. Smith, Webb and Jong all moved on. I still think that we will add Gardiner and keep Dickson & Williams for another year. That would be IMO a huge turn over of personal with such a young list. With all of these guys only playing a hand full of games between them we will miss nothing from turning them over.

According to Hun
Quote:
BAILEY WILLIAMS (Western Bulldogs)
Talks will ramp up with his management next week but all signs are now pointing to him re-signing at the Kennel. Had been keen to assess whether he was part of the Dogs’ future after only nine games this year and none since round 17.
-
Re: Player Contract Status
Happy to keep Williams. He’s shown enough at the highest level to prove he has a place.
-
Re: Player Contract Status
That's an interesting turn around with Williams. He's not in a strong bargaining position salary wise. Maybe a two year extension on something like the money he is on.
If he and Dale sign we need 6 list movements out to cover three draft selections and three trades in:
1. Boyd
2. Picken
3. Morris (ret)
4. Webb
5. Roberts
6. Dickson or a contracted player traded or retired early
-
Re: Player Contract Status
I believe that Bailey Williams wants to stay at the dogs.
-
Re: Player Contract Status
What do you mean he doesn't want to join the dumpster fire that is Adelaide, or not get paid playing at Port?

I agree, I think he has talent and should be retained.

Re: Player Contract Status
I think Williams' best footy is still in front of him. Would be a shame to lose him.

I think Dicko may have shown enough for another season, I can see us moving on Jong.

Watching Williams at Footscray, he seemed to be happy and quite engaged. If a player is unhappy, the output even at VFL level wouldn't be any good but he is a class above.
If we need to roll-over more spots, do we need to look at the next tier of players and have them exploring opportunity somewhere else even if they have a contract for 2020?
These are players who are with us for few seasons already:
Billy Gowers: 2020 (Depth player)
Fergus Greene: 2020 (Where is he at now?)
Lin Jong: 2020 (Depth player)
Brad Lynch: 2020 (Where is he at now?)
Roarke Smith: 2019 (Rookie)
List management is a tough gig :(
-
Re: Player Contract Status
We won passes to go in the rooms post-match early in the year, and I was interested in the psychology of the listed players who had not played. While almost all of them went and stood in a corner together, Morris, Trengrove and Williams walked straight over to the 22 and pulled up a seat with them. This showed me that they see themselves as best 22 senior players who shouldn't be lumped with the VFL crew.
I think Port and Crows are missing a trick if they're not approaching him, but I'll be glad if he stays.

I'd be looking to keep Fergus at this stage. Looked good and injury has been what's kept him out. The others I'd be more comfortable parting with

Ditto. A guy who has shown he can contribute at AFL level just had his year wiped out by injury, and presumably he's on base salary.

One of Lynch, Gowers or Jong might have some interest from elsewhere. If they got offered a two year deal I wouldn’t stand in their way. I don’t see any at the club after 2020 finishes. I’d rather look for trading in a best 22 player with that spot and reduce our back up depth fractionally.

Re: Player Contract Status
So Bailey Dale said he wants to extend his contract, with talks underway. Latest media word is Bailey Williams is likely to stay with an extended contract, working on it this week. Everyone wants Bailey Smith to extend his contract immediately too.
Here's hoping for a pre-finals Triple Baileys announcement. And Guinness book of world record for most Baileys re-signed at the same time by one professional sporting club.

Let’s all have a Baileys to celebrate national Bailey day.

Re: Player Contract Status
From the OP:
Bailey Williams: 2019 - apparently likely to stay
Bailey Dale: 2019 - states want to stay
Lukas Webb: 2019 - surely going
Fletcher Roberts: 2019 (FA) - surely going
Tory Dickson: 2019 (FA) - the interesting spot
-----------------
Roarke Smith: 2019 (Rookie) - surely going
Ryan Gardner: 2019 (Rookie) - who knows, I'd move him on
Buku Khamis: 2019 (Rookie) - 100% locked for next year
Three vacancies now (Morris, Picken & Boyd). Roberts & Webb make five vacancies. I'd like to see at lest one more open up.

We have to bring in 3 via the draft, so at this stage we can only trade in 2 which seems light on given all the conjecture so far out. Can definitely see some surprises happening on our end.

Exactly my point. I want to aim at 3 mature role players from trading. If Williams & Dale do sign. That leaves Dicko the only unsigned player on the main list to open up spot 6. So if we want to keep him for next year, we might need to offer up a fringe type for trade to open the spot. Three players could get some interest Jong (GCS previously), Lynch (North last year) or Gowers. So the question is of Dickson, Lynch, Gowers & Jong, which three would help us most next year?

Gowers and Jong are contracted, but I feel Dickson would help us most. He's AFL standard and a beautiful set shot as well.
