CAROLINE WILSON - February 18, 2010

THE Western Bulldogs have quietly rested the old playing numbers of former stars Steven Wallis and Tony Liberatore, giving the strongest indication yet that the schoolboy sons of the pair will be signed to the club in 2010 under the father-son rule.

Thomas Liberatore and Mitch Wallis are expected to wear the respective numbers 39 and 24 of their fathers in 2011 in what the club hopes will prove a timely retaliation against the introduction of the Gold Coast and its raft of early draft choices.

In a decision approved by the board, no player will wear No. 39 in 2010 after the delisting of Malcolm Lynch, while the No. 24 worn by Wallis, a former captain, was not used last season and will be kept aside again.
