The Good, The Bad and The Ugly

The Good

Sam Darcy continuing to clunk marks and be a viable option down the line.

Rhylee West cementing his spot in the starting 18 and being a consistent contributor.

JUH taking over as the number one target in the forward 50 but?

The Bad

The Goalkicking yet again let the dogs down. Rhylee West missing that set shot and many gettable set shots (in crunch time too, looking at you JUH and Darcy) missed. What?s going on Johnno?

The Dogs seemed to have trouble kicking in and being able to chain together possessions from those kick ins. What was the strategy there?

The much vaunted midfield of the dogs having a bad game, led to the dogs getting smacked in centre clearances and general clearances. The Bont (injured perhaps?), Treloar, Libba and Sanders (8 disposals until subbed off) couldn?t replicate their heroics against Geelong.

Tim English isn?t a competent tap ruckman, so when his around the ground work isn?t up to his usual standards, he becomes a liability

The Ugly

Inability of the Dogs midfield to put pressure which lead to effective inside 50s and easy set shot and general goals. The easy entries didn?t allow for any intercept marking or opportunities to bring the ball to ground and allow for quick transition. So bloody frustrating to see marks and goals that easy.

The forward line not functioning (again), too much reliance on the big pack mark instead of hitting players on the lead or easy crumbing goals. Usually those pack mark attempts can lead to easy crumbing goals but the dogs were losing clearances so that wasn?t? working. What was plan B? There didn?t seem to be one.

Libba collapsing. Personally I think it was delayed reaction to that Stringer piledriver tackle. So Bevo would have been right. It was concussion but it sure as hell wasn?t an ankle.



The Coach

Despite many of the doggies supporters on Social Media screaming out that Bevo should be gone, there hasn?t been a ?The Club is behind Bevo? statement yet from President KWW.

But if the dogs lose to the Saints next week?oh man?I don?t think I?ll have enough motivation to write the review.

The Changes

Pretty easy. A whole host, Baker (counted 3 out on the full possessions), Taylor Duryea with a couple of lazy clangers, Ed Richards had a couple of howlers. If the Dogs are going to go with selection integrity, then Garcia and Harmes are straight ins for the Saints and Busslinger gets his debut.

Duryea was one of our best, no way he gets dropped.
Baker will, one of his classic brain fade games.

It was a classic five to ten per cent effort swing, where a committed side came completely primed to take it up to us and we reflected their endeavour with an equal lack of commitment.

That type of thing is OK if you're able to take your chances early and break the spirit of the committed team, but if you don't, like we didn't last night (first half missed shots) it's going to be a challenge to stay with them all game - like it was.
