This week - if results go our way - could be a very good one for us. Hawthorn to beat the Giants in Tassie. St. Kilda to beat the Suns. Essendon to beat Carlton. Sydney to beat Geelong and Collingwood and Melbourne to play out an exhausting draw that includes a monumental 70s-style punch-up that results in multiple lengthy suspensions, could see us rocket up the ladder and into the 8. I also want Richmond to beat Adelaide and the Eagles to beat North.

Not sure all those matter too much.

We need to win and let other results sort themselves out.

I'm playing the long game. I want North to have no chance of avoiding the wooden spoon. We don't want them in a situation where they could be accused of tanking. We play them twice remember. We play Adelaide in Round 22. We want any chance of them making the eight to be snuffed out well before then.

What we don't want is Adelaide sacking their coach in after Round 21.

He had a contract extension of two years at the start of this year.

Of course no coach has ever been sacked when they are contracted

I wasn't too worried about Hawthorn and West Coast last year.

A good round for us so far thanks to the umpires stinking it up again and sinking the boots in to GWS and the Suns.

You know we lost right? Not my version of a good round.

Yep not good. Despite this we are only one win outside the eight. Get a few of our best players back over the next few weeks plus the bye and we should have a good run home (still a lot of tough games). We need to win 7 of our last 10 games to make finals. There will be loads of upsets along the journey.

True, but my fear is we needed an extra two wins at the bye. There’s still next week, but I think we’ve just made it too hard for ourselves. I think we fast track as many kids as possible, which has been a shining light, and hit 2025.

Not that we are in a desperate position needing teams to lose but it would be good to :

    Carlton beat Geelong
    Lions beat Port
    Swans beat Giants
    North beat Dees (unlikely)
    Eagles beat Bombers (unlikely )
    Suns beat Freo (unlikely)

Even a couple of those results would be handy for us.
