Bankers & Anchors: Rnd 16, 2024 vs North Melbourne

This is the Round 16, 2024 edition of the weekly Bankers and Anchors thread. Once today's game against North has concluded post your nominations for:

The Bankers = 3 guys/aspects of the game that we banked on to do the right thing during the game
The Anchors = 3 guys/aspects of the game that weighed us down by their errors or poor play

Please limit it to no more than three of each player or aspect of the game, but feel free to make honourable/dishonourable mentions. As usual try to make it constructive criticism.

Try and restrict it to individual players rather than aspects of the overall match - I will allow more freedom now as the thread seems to be going down more of the aspects of the game path so you can have 3 for each made up of aspects of the game and individual players.

The thread is named in honour of a popular WOOF Contributor, The Banker, who passed away on 22/04/2012 after a six month battle with cancer.

Saved me doing it. Marra should play like a $1M player.

Fox said north had kicked all 9 of their goals when Bont was on the bench.

    Bankers

Winning post-bye with chess pieces on the move. Lobb playing back was a big risk that paid off. Naughton and Weightman still working their way back from injury contributed. The forward line connection wasn't there but we won anyway, a good sign.

Bont got the 3 brownlow votes.

Williams so dependable, having a brilliant season, must be high up in the best and fairest.

    Anchors

2x marks on our goal line not allowed, would have been near-certain goals.

North supporters booing on the final siren. You lost by 3 goals, not 3 points. They went from downtrodden to entitled real quick.

A few of our good players lacking an edge - English, Ugle-Hagan, Liberatore, Jones early.

Their fans are gonna be as entitled as Melbourne fans when the afel have handed them absolutely everything due to their own incompetence. Not surprised in the slightest they now expect to be gift wrapped wins.

    Bankers

    1. The Bont, we are so lucky to watch this man

    2. Lobb - probably the first time he has ever played in the backline, and played like a veteran.

    3. Libba - great work rate, puts himself on the line week in week out.

    Anchors

    1. Dale turning the ball over after being awarded a free kick for around the leg tackle. Result goal to North

    2. Libba for turning over the ball with a silly pass - result goal for North

    2. Umpires - silly frees yet throwing the ball is allowed. A two handed tap, volley ball style is illegal, a scoop when the player is on the ground and scoops it up is throwing the ball. Don't give frees when crowd yells for them

    Bankers

I'll look outside the obvious Bont brilliance,
    1. Bramble, great game today, he's got his limitations but he's also got some tremendous Shane Biggs attributes too. The last couple of weeks he seems to have tidied up some of the execution.

    2. VDM, another who can frustrate with his limitations, but when he reduces the unnecessary errors, he displays speed, two way endurance running, and can play taller than he looks both offensively and defensively.

    3. Lobb, great game, I just hope its not the level of opposition that enabled him to be successful today, because I don't want to find out next week when he has 4 disposals, and his direct opponent kicks 4 goals that it was just because North made poor decisions going forward with the ball. But if he can replicate this in the back end of the season, then maybe Tom Barrass' manager has to find someone other than us to drive his contract extension value discussions with the Eagles to his favour.

I really liked JOD's game too.

    Anchors.

    1. Jamarra. could've had a very influential game today, but was sloppy by hand, foot and mind, and yet hat no problem visibly calling out someone who mistakenly kicked it poorly to the goalline instead of 10 metres further out to our advantage.
If he gets the little parts of his game right, and that includes his focus, he can be one of the best in the game. But if he rests on his talent, he'll just be pretty good and sometimes amazing, and equal parts disappointing and frustrating for the remainder of his career.

    2. Gallagher, He was pretty quiet tonight ,and when he had his opportunities with ball, he fluffed his lines. Might be time for a spell, if we have anyone like Garcia pressing for a recall.

    3. English, not his best night that's for sure, Xerri really had influence in the moments North looked to press us.

    Bankers

    1. Agree with YHF's bankers of Bramble, Lobb and VDM

    2. Bont, and why no tag on him?

    3. FJ and JOD continue to impress.

    Anchors

    1. Selection: Are Gags and Baker really in front of Garcia?

    2. English seems to be in decline as the season wears on.

    3. JUH dropped marks.
The fight is here; I need ammunition, not a ride.

    I forgot one anchor

    4. Macrae, 3rd quarter. He has ball in hand and about 60 metres out, two players calling for the ball about 40 metres out, so what does he do, he kicks to the square where our player has two Nth players surrounding him. To me it was unforgiveable.

I remember watching that and thinking he held onto it as long as he could because nobody was giving a good option.
When I saw it on replay I still thought it was lack of options.

Not sure we are talking the same incident, but Weightman was on his own arms in the air yelling and screaming and one other player another player closer to goal. I just thought Macrae was not smart in the situation.
