He must be on a low salary. Seems to be a player who trips over grass and is out for a month.
Nothing against his football ability it’s just his body seems made of balsa wood.

Gardner is excellent depth especially if we need to shut down one of the Gorillas. Something he is very good at. Just don't give him ball in hand.

JJ is just so injury prone now and aging where it will only get worse.
The other challenge for those players with long term injuries (JJ, Gardner, Croft) trying to get back into the senior side, is the remaining draw for the VFL team.
This week they have a bye then play just three more games in the regular season against Casey (home), Frankston (away) and our final game against Sydney (away) played 17/18 Aug.
After that final game is the round where teams 7-10 vie for a finals position (24/25 Aug). Given our current position and general form, this would be another bye round for us before we start our finals campaign from 2 September.
With the VFL finals series there is usually a 'minimum games' requirements enforced for AFL listed players for them to be eligible to play. This rule may suit Gardner and Croft but I wouldn't expect JJ (or Smith).
I think you are right that JJ has likely already played his last game for us - this year at least.
Anyone can support a team that is winning, it takes no courage. But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you, that takes a lot of courage, so lets always be behind our boys and girls in red, white and blue.

Re: Injury List 2024
I was wondering about this when I saw the injury list time frames so thanks Smads for the run down.
The AFL should really think about bring back reserve grade footy and curtain raisers from a financial point it would have to be better having all the player travelling together and from a team perspective would build more unity. You could still top up with outside players or just increase the lists. The talent pool will be the same regardless.

There are a few different rules around VFL finals qualification for players, however if the AFL side is still alive in finals then it is unrestricted beyond having to have played a single game at either VFL or AFL level for the season. Bailey Smith is the only player that this might prevent from playing. If we make AFL finals I would expect to see JJ return in the VFL provided he doesn't have any further setbacks.

Re: Injury List 2024
Medical Room | Round 21
Footscray defender James O?Donnell will be tested this week to determine his availability ahead of Friday night?s Retro Round match against Melbourne.
?From our rehab group, James is eyeing a return this week ? he has missed the last few weeks following a concussion he suffered in the Round 17 game, which was then followed by some hamstring tightness,? Head of Sports Medicine, Chris Bell, said.
?James completed a game-like training session on Saturday, so if he gets through full training like I expect, he will return to availability.?
The Dogs emerged from the win over Sydney without any major injury concerns, while Footscray VFL had a bye.
James Harmes and Kelsey Rypstra are at least another week away from their respective hamstring injuries, while Ryan Gardner is also closing in on his return from a wrist injury.

Re: Injury List 2024
Last week Gards was considered 5 to 7 weeks away and now just 1 week. That's a speedier than expected recovery and more in line with how he's been performing at training.

That was the strangest thing to come out of the report.
We could have an abundance of KP defenders available with JOD back as well. Great problem to have

The Scott 3-4 week concussion is new as well and concerning for him as he seems to have suffered quite a few over the past couple of seasons.

JOD is ahead of Buku and Coffield imo.

Personally I would currently have JOD behind Buku and lineball with Coffield, although I don't think we should play all of Jones, Lobb, Buku and JOD in the same side.
I think JJ is still in the conversation but he is going to need us to make it deep into finals for a chance to be fully fit and firing.
Anyone for Harmes' experience in finals?

Re: Injury List 2024
JJ injured his calf twice but says they have worked out what the issue was. He says he will be available in 3 to 4 weeks.
