I hear you but the jump from U/18's to AFL is huge too. We don't really know until they play AFL. At least with VFL, they are up against AFL listed players.
I definitely agree the jump is huge but there are plenty of positive examples of players doing well in AFL after being picked up as a mature aged recruit from state leagues. I think specific roles are different too. Defensive jobs like pressure forward and tagging less of a thing at U/18 level.

Jai Newcombe has done alright. Agree it's rare for mature recruits to pay off. But don't get the luxury of big clubs to attract quality players.

What are the odds you find an A Grade mid in the mid season draft.
Nuts.
I blame 666 and stand (that's my go to when I don't get something)

Jai Newcombe is a good story.
Not sure why he did not get picked up as an 18 year old. Maybe maturity ? maybe covid ?
He is a good story. I hate how Hawks are so good at recruiting players like him out of state league.

I’m dangerously close to quitting watching football. I reckon that’d be the final straw.

If we get Tomlinson then I’m convinced that the recruiting team are reading my messages and deliberately picking up players I think suck as a bit.
