Soldo looking at a trade just one year after joining Port.

I'd trade him for Butters in a heart beat.

Naughton is never going back sadly.
Sydney run with McDonald, Amartey and McLean. Geelong used Hawkins (replaced by Neale), Cameron and Henry. Port used Dixon, Marshall (replaced by Ratugolea) and Georgiades. Brisbane had Daniher, Hipwood and Morris.

All prelim finalists had 3 tall forwards as their main structure. The difference between them and us? The presence of elite smalls.

Sydney have Papley (plus Hayward). Geelong have Stengle and Miers. Port have Rioli. Brisbane have Cameron, Rayner (plus Lohmann).

We have Weightman, though he plays more like a medium marking forward than a small crumber. Our other smalls in the qualifying final were McNeil, VDM and Daniel.

3 tall forwards is the default structure of every team in the competition. I genuinely can't think of anyone who doesn't use that set up. What we lack is quality smalls, which also happens to be Carlton's issue (a big part of why they missed finals despite having McKay and Curnow)

He looked tall when I checked some highlights but supposedly something like the 183cm you mention

I just saw something on Code sports that said he was 190cm so I'm not sure now.
If he is 190cm then he is the same height as Bedendo and only kicked a couple of goals more than he did in the VFL this year.
If we need a marking forward then perhaps we run the ruler over him but I'd prefer someone who is more competitive when the ball hits the ground.

Yeah exactly thats the player that came to mind and it was always hard to see how Bedendo could fit in our forward set up.

With Darcy and JUH on the improve and Naughton playing more of a CHF role up the ground abit, they are going to be even more dangerous in the future
Agree. But would we be an even better team swapping JUH for Gulden or Butters?

    Just add Butters anyhow

Bevo talks about trends of the game, well, 3 big forwards ain't it.

I think we need to persist and see if it can be our POD. They are 3 supremely talented players, all match winners in their own right. We need to build around them and find accommodating pieces. It wasn't exactly their fault we had sub 30 F50 entries deep into the EF.

Having said that, when Croft is in the wings (though I don't get why we wouldn't position him as a CHB) and a few F/S's may yet be coming, we would be foolish not to have ongoing discussions around list balance.

Any way you dice it, trading it Marra now would be idiotic.
We play 2 KPFs and a forward/ruck, and Naughton plays very high up the ground.
Plenty of teams play a similar set-up.

For all the talk of our forwards, it was our midfield that was smashed in the Elimination final. And in 3 Adelaide Oval games.

"Small" forwards can get pretty tall, and if we can upgrade our pressure HFs I say we go for it.

I guess I see Weightman more as a marking target, him plus 3 KPFs isn't a great mix imo. We seemed to be squeezing one on the bench most games so maybe we'll just have to keep rotating them.
    The curse is dead.
