He's 28yo and the perfect contrast to what we currently have. Depending on his contract $$, I'm pressing go on this trade in a heartbeat - plug and play AFEL quality ruckman who will ensure the incumbent is under selection pressure for the first time ever. It's basically a list spot in a specialist area we don't have sufficient depth in.
St Kilda is a strange choice - Marshall is pretty elite and going nowhere. He must really hate it at Alberton.

St Kilda like to have two rucks though don't they? Looking to recreate the old pairing with Ryder

They used to do this (don't we all know it after the Ryder stoppage masterclass he gave in the 2020 EF), but in the last couple of years they've been using Max King and whoever else is up forward (ie: Cooper Sharman) as the 2nd ruck.

It would be amazing if we traded Soldo in because the bloke we traded out made him obsolete.

After missing out on Soldo the year before we traded in Lobb. Swings and roundabouts.

Tom Morris:
GWS had been confident this time last week
James Peatling would sign a fresh three-year deal.
He still may, but he spent Sunday & yesterday in Melbourne meeting with Victorian clubs.
Hopefully we met with him

Yeah i was going to say, we try and bring Soldo in (he goes to Port), we lose Sweet because we won't play him, Sweet becomes Ports no.1 so now Soldo wants out, weird stuff!
Problem with someone like Soldo though, is he wants AFL game time and we have English and Darcy playing ruck and can play other positions where's Soldo is just a ruckman, Soldo would be depth? Unless we do play Timmy in another position and use Soldo as our no.1?

I don't really understand why we would want SDK. It is not that I don't rate him, but how many talls are we going to try to play?
Or more to the point, how many talls on big money do we want to play at Footscray?

If Jones lasts until the end of next year, I'd be surprised.
I guess we want a mature plug & play defender.

It's probably not an absolute requirement for next season but Jones should get through 2025 okay but not a lot further.
In the short term Jones, Lobb and SDK would be a great unit. From 2026 Lobb, SDK and Busslinger would be a strong group.
SDK can also do some ruck work. I get he's not a genuine requirement now but I understand why we would be tempted.

Re: Trade Rumours 2024
If we get SDK then I would be perfectly comfortable with thanking Jones for his service and turning him into the new Keath. Mind blowing that SDK was ever moved from the backline/out of their side somehow.

More Scuttlebutt:
Connors told Smith not to go to the Geelong prelim and is annoyed that Smith did anyway. Hurts negotiations. Bulldogs officially requesting the AFL look further into Smith's deal with Cotton on (which I'm sure won't get the Talia treatment)

I just read that. It's also been rumoured the club could seek legal action into Geelong already "paying" Smith via the cotton link with the previso he seeks a trade to them as he has now done.
This could get really messy if true. Although I have no faith in the afel so we'd have to take the legal route.

Re: Trade Rumours 2024
If it's true I like that we're actually doing something about this. I doubt we bring down the Geelong Football Industrial Complex but if it's just a bit of a pain in their ass, if it makes it even a bit harder to pull the crap they pull, it'll be worth it.
Ultimately it may all be fire and fury signifying nothing

Bains from a top tier law firm (former head of legal at Toyota)
Power from a top tier law firm
Gordon the best class action lawyer in the land (successfully rep?s Gil too)
No doubt other high quality lawyers who?d consult for free
We?ve got the legal firepower without the costs to make this very ugly. Unless Geelong want to maybe do this quickly. If they want to make us make this ugly, that?s a choice on their part. Seems they?ve got a lot more to lose than us. A LOT.
