The salary factor is a compelling one. I’m sure it helps us with any recruitment we have in the pipeline along with a few top tier players coming out of contract in 2025 (from what information I can gather on contracts).

Weird Jack wants to go to Saints but I guess they’re offering him midfield starting time and probably not many others are.
    Non sensical ‘reporting’…

Realistically, the Saints should just do 43 and make this the first trade. If they want him and have got him to nominate and the salary doesn’t bother them, then pick 43 (46+ after compo added in) is a bargain for them. It’s a natural last half of the third round pick.

And what bargain is the contracted Macrae and his management going to drive against us?

Will offer 3rd (or 4th) round pick.

Pick 43 (Pick 46 after at least 3 compo picks for Battle, Cumming & Perryman added) IS a third round pick.

    What? Make it make sense.
If Ralph has it anyway right in terms of the Saints being prepared to take on Macraes full salary then that will give us a lot of scope going forward.

Ralph says they won’t offer Pick 43 - a third rounder.

Then says they will offer a third or fourth rounder.

Which is it? They aren’t offering a third, or they are offering a third. It’s literally the opposite reporting in two paragraphs?

Maybe a worse 3rd rounder from other trades but not 43

Perhaps, then the reporting should be Silvagni is a ****ing idiot. Gets Macrae to request a trade but won’t trade 43 but will trade 49? Kind of ridiculous if that’s the line from SOS.

    Touch?.

If Silvagni wants to be the new Dodoro then so be it. I honestly thought this was one of the easiest trades to complete for all the parties at 43 (likely 46).

Took a long time to do Coffield and probably only really worked because we were also accounting for points and picks after points. Was Coffield 52 and 56 for 40

And the F4 with Dow involved I think it was. It sounds like he wants to drag it out… so be it. It’ll get done, but sometimes you have to wonder why this posturing is played out in negotiations or the media.

St Kilda being by far the worst team at the trade table for over a decade only to bring in Steve Silvagni as a list manager is the type of unintentional comedy that you wouldn’t believe if it was scripted.

Dodoro as his assistant would be comedy gold.

It doesn't make a lot of sense at the moment but I think we are still a good chance to get that pick or something close to it.
They're making a long term commitment to Macrae so it's just not a speculative trade for them.
Perhaps they feel that Power will want to get rid of a really poor contract so therefor we should just accept a pick around 50
It also appears the contract is a bit front loaded so if the trade goes through it opens up a lot of scope for us in any trades this year.

Totally, that salary can get repurposed into something that the MC would prefer. I think it’s just plain silly from SOS to not just drop this and move on considering it’s likely going to be Pick 46 after compo is dished out. If the situation was reversed, I’d just do the deal and bring in the player who we want for a such an average pick. It will get done, but I think it should be a lot simpler than this posturing.

Pragmatic deals just seem to be becoming harder to get done. Perhaps there is a mindset of if we can screw them for a bit more and drag it out then we stop them from getting other deals done. No one should get screwed over but I guess recruiting managers need to show that they somehow got a reasonable deal.
This one should be an easy one to complete and hopefully SoS will see it's in everyone's interest to get it done early.

    Re: Trade Rumours 2024

Someone on BF posted similar trades from last year.

    Keep in mind during last year's trade period;

Taylor Adams went for pick 33, Shane McAdam went for pick 25 (2024), Esava went for pick 25, Tyler Brockman went for pick 44, Tom Fullarton went for pick 47 and the 43 that St.Kilda are playing hardball over was what they received for Jack Billings.
I feel like Adams is a fair comparison so if anything 43 is a little unders. Macrae's salary supposedly starts to dip and averages to like 600k for the remainder so it's not like he'll be on outrageous coin.

This isn't to say I expect pick 20-whatever for him, just that the posturing seems a bit out of line.
