It's not like he bagged the club in the media and didn't meet their standards through the season.
Yes I get using that lever against city hall.
Using it against one of your players who bled for the club and finished third best is poor form I think.

I know Dunkley isn't a popular player for our supporters now but I thought the club, Bevo and Dunks handled it well last year. I'm not sure that the Saints have done themselves any favors for the way they've handled Battles departure. It will however give them a short term spike with the supporters.

And probably a negative through the afl players group which is pretty dumb. They already struggle to attract players.
You got to play it like Barksdale and Stringer did to Omar on the wire.
Play it cool, parley, ask for a truce. Then we he sticks his head up you whack it!

Re: St Kilda
Apparently Battle told the players he was staying after they won in the last round so players were actually upset with him as well.

A President pushing his case in the interests of his club. I really don't see an issue with it. I'd take that over the silent meek approach to dealing with AFL house

And then sent out a group text to tell them all he wasn't.

Because we are bulldogs we over analyse players who leave
Dunkley left for $$$
All the other stuff is a smokescreen to cover that Brisbane offered him the longest contract and the most dollars
He'd already had what 2 shoulder reconstructions? What was he with us - our 4th/5th best midfielder
We definitely wanted him to stay - hes a valuable player and was for us.
Our club might have wanted him to stay but if the offer to go was so substantially larger then we cant really begrudge the player too much. We dont have to love him, but as others have commented he gave it everything he had whilst he was with us - he is a Bulldog premiership player - I personally appreciated all his efforts in the tricolours and now he is effectively dead to me until a premiership re-uniuon

BINGO - my thoughts exactly. It was always for money. Said that from the start.
