    Re: Trade Rumours 2024

So we are basically down to XOH as a potentially In and thats about it from a trade front?

I must say considering we knew Smith was going and that Macrae and Daniel were off the pace early it's a little surprising that we haven't been able to land anyone.

I?d be disappointed if we had no ability to hold some of our cards to our chest and all of our business was leaked out.

Lets wait and see.Lots to play out.

There will be someone else delisted from another club, we'll get one of them, don't stress.

This is the key point. We know that we have CHASED a few big names - Barrass, Holmes, Houston, SDK, even Butters is being reported - and then looking at some smaller names in XOH, Peatling, etc. I don't think the club can be accused of not trying, or not recognising the need to improve the list - but unfortunately those players chose not to come to us.

I'm sure that our contract terms and pitch were good - but when someone else is whispering "we'll give you another farm" it's a lot more enticing than "here's a brown paper bag filled with tortilla chips".

Other names will emerge. We are still in with a chance for Peatling and if he stays at GWS then they might be more open to trading XOH.
I wouldn't mind us having a talk to Finn Maginness and Deven Robertson. It's still very early in the process.

The big worry with Cats chasing Oliver and Smith is now the Cats will flog off most of their valuable picks to Melbourne to get Oliver and we're left with a single 1st rounder this year that will end up being early 20s.

Then let him go to the draft. I’m not wanting to help them win flags by taking very poor trades with them. They have players to trade too. Honestly, if we are contending over the next few years we are arming our opponent with an advantage by taking ho hum picks. We owe him and Geelong no obligation to trade if it’s not in good faith. They should identify a good player surplus to need (ie SDK) and get it done. If not, I’d honestly rather forgo Pick 20 then proactively improve their list.

We are not allowed to pig out on the Gold Coast. We are not a "Big Club".

Saints/Dogs and Roos are not permitted to rort the trade period/draft or pillage GWS/GC. We pay the shit club tax and pick up the scraps in the trade period after the big clubs have had a feed. We pay $1m per year over 5 years for a role player and get told by the AFLwe have done well.

Well, Kangaroos are... they get a shit load of draft assistance and then trade it away for a pittance.

BTW the rumor in the cats board is that SDK is possibly part of a trade to get currency. Being mentioned as part of a 3-way trade with Carlton and Melbourne as part of Oliver's move. That would probably get them some extra currency to either give to us or hoard for themselves like the fat dragons they are (not the cool kind.) Like this guy. Fat off of our tax money (the real wefare queens) and free food from local companies

Would the hypothetical deal be something like Carlton give first round (11) and get SDK, cats give SDK and get Baz, we give Baz and get pick 11?

I think we would all take that as a starting point.

Yeah we just did it with Brisbane. They've gone and won a flag now. We beat them in the 2021 semi but we decided to give them a legup in the Dunkley trade.
