Yep. If both teams win, both get to be winners. The Dodoro type mentality is so counter productive and just macho BS.

Doesn't seem to make much difference anyway if they couldn't win a final in how long.......................................

There’s also relationship building and good will that gets lost too. Dodoro never understood that, maybe he did when Sam Power told him to shove his Dunkley offer years after his Stringer games. But some of the conduct this off season smacks of blokes that don’t understand they might want to have a good relationship in future years.

Yeah, of course. But overall:
Picks 3-5 average 166 games.
Picks 6-10 average 132 games.
Picks 3-5 average 40 Brownlow votes.
Picks 6-10 average 20 Brownlow votes.
All of the clubs have blokes flying all over, watching games (or - in most cases, drinking coffee and idly chatting to one another). But ultimately they are paying them for a reason...let them loose to pick the right blokes.
I'm not trading pick 3 for pick 8 and Liam Baker. How does that move the needle in any way??? Not. Happening. Don't West Coast need as many GOOD players as they can get? If they wanted 'average' players, they could have traded away pick 1 last year and picked up 3 first rounders...but they didn't do that. Why in goodness name would they do this?
What should I tell her? She's going to ask.

How exhausting is it? If you target an oppo player, then do the work to make it happen. BS, Barrass, Macrae...On the other hand, it does seem Freo are being sorta reasonable with Bolton (11 + 23 or somthing) and GC are offering way overs for Rioli...
I don't know. Maybe I'm missing something.

'Big' Melbourne clubs (and SOS who used to be part of that) are entitled and demanding too much or offering too little? Outside the bubble people are being normal?

Re: Bulldog ONLY Trade News
Apparently we are still being mentioned with GCS Pick 13. But with a F1. Other clubs a F1 & F2. So either we are going to need to increase our offer or miss. But it sounds like first rounders are about to fly so who knows what happens.

Re: Bulldog ONLY Trade News
From Fox Footy
WESTERN BULLDOGS
There’s a fair bit on list boss Sam Power’s plate — largely surrounding Bailey Smith in the out-of-contract midfielder’s bid to get to Geelong. The Dogs have reportedly asked for a top 10 pick for Smith after rejecting the Cats’ offer of Pick 17. It looms as one of the most fascinating deals expected to go down to the wire of Wednesday’s deadline. There is no real chance the national or pre-season draft gets used even though, as is typical at this time of year, it was raised as a threat. Expect a favourable late swap along with 17 to get the deal done. Otherwise, the Dogs have belatedly begun talks with St Kilda over a Jack Macrae trade, with a bit of a salary cap squeeze pushing Luke Beveridge’s side into making the move even if they only get a late future pick back, while Caleb Daniel has interest from North Melbourne in a move that could gain momentum in the coming days. The Dogs have reportedly asked the question of Giants midfielder Xavier O’Halloran, but GWS isn’t keen to move him after losing experience in trade and free agency. The Dogs are also among the teams in the mix Gold Coast’s Pick 13, having reportedly offered a future first rounder.

Bit of a salary cap squeeze? Surely you jest.
Fine form as usual from fox footy.

Re: Bulldog ONLY Trade News
Where has this salary squeeze come from?
Weeks ago we were prepared to stump up big money for TB, and over recent years we've apparently had a bit of cash to splash. I understand we have some big contracts/some high profile ones coming up (Darcy, Marra, Bont, Naughton, Richards) but I'm not sure how we're suddenly in need of dumping players....
Media is also missing the fact we're effectively replacing Smith with pick(s) - there's $$ saved.

Clearly they have NFI and have no interest in educating themselves about our cap position.

I know journalism in general is at rock bottom but afl journalism has to be the absolute worst in the world and this trade period has surely confirmed it.

Exactly, draft picks are incredibly overrated and have been for a while now. Picks beyond 20 or 25 are basically worthless when you look at the average outcomes versus later picks.
Bailey would be odds on to both play more than 166 games and poll more than 40 votes in the Brownlow from here. Yet suggestions of a top 3 pick would be seen as laughable by most.
Given the draft pick fanaticism it's very important to retain players, and only to consider trading a contracted senior player when they are on the outer of selection/future plans in order to free up salary cap space to retain the players that are in future plans (Macrae a good example). Honestly I couldn't care less if we get pick 25 for Macrae or pick 80 so long as they take all of his salary.

They just speculate. We probably don't want to contribute to Macrae's salary so the media logic is we must be tight with the cap.
