That pretty much is what I said. Not good enough to get mid minutes he wants at Carlton, likely to be the same story here.

He’s under contract next year. They’ll probably chase Oliver again.

Re: Bulldog ONLY Trade News
Extremely sad to see two Bullgods leave today, but let's face it both had become depth, would have liked to have kept that but to now have a good draft hand is a tick, and to bring in Kennedy who will most likely be a best 22 player is a plus, pick 38 is probably about right for him, top 10 in this years Carlton B&F, we got paid unders for Smith but reckon we got overs for Daniel, we obviously needed that pick upgrade from Geelong to give to the blues, would have liked XOH for midfield coverage more than anything but we can probably pay less when he's out of contract next year if we're still interested, probably better anyway as next years draft isn't as strong as this years according to Cal Twomey.

I think you need to add context of getting MacRae's and Daniel's salary off our books . The $$$ now are being factored into trade week to balance salary cap.
But great analysis , thanks

Ok great. We got some cash off the books. Now what do we do with it? Piss it up the wall on average players like Harmes, Kennedy and Coffield?

What're we doing with it though? Guess Darcy'll need a pay rise. Richards too. Still got that Hurley money out back somewhere.

I think it will enable us to pay Darcy what his market value will be, and presumably Bont and Marra, and cross fingers attract a top notch player next year.
And retain Richards.

So who's the star player out of contract next year that'll bend us over a barrel? Or is this an evens year thing.

Well I don't think Adz, Bont or Darcy would do that.
Richards maybe but his comments late in the season were promising.
The others aren't a worry if they left. We might be in the clear.
But I suspect Marra will want out the following year. We should try trade him next year.
I tell you what if we're sitting here in 2 years time with the same outcome - a 2nd rounder for Marra after he chooses a top 4 team it hink that'll do it for me.

To be fair, Kennedy might be the best player of the 4 at the present moment. Garcia and Sanders should get opportunities. Kennedy has enough flexibility to play a couple of roles. Not totally in love with it, but we?ve had a lot of experience go out and he helps fill that gap a little bit.

Carlton's midfield is pretty good and younger than ours.
He will be part of the mid-field rotation. Don't mind he pick up. Like it better than Harmes.

Re: Bulldog ONLY Trade News
Putting the actual trades to one side it?s pretty frustrating seeing media use the 3 players to undermine our coaches. I saw Lloyd blaming Bevo for playing them out of position but to me you cant just drop that line without naming the players you?re moving out of those roles.
If we played Smith in the middle at Libbas expense in 2023 for example we would cop it re Libba as well. If we had given Macrae more time we wouldn?t have found Richards. Macrae has never been an elite centre square player he does his best work around the ground but the footy media has no desire to look into the nuance of each scenario.
This has been an issue for the club for 4-5 years where media and even our fans question player positioning without offering a viable alternate. Not a surprise to me that we started to thrive as a team the more we deviated from simply squeezing our best 22 players into a team and started putting value on the role required.
This is not being negative towards any of these players but if the narrative is that they have been pushed out of their preferred positions incorrectly then I just think that?s wrong. The only one I would potentially challenge is could we have made a forward looking ruthless call in 2023 and backed Smith over Treloar/Libba but we would have copped the same flack for potentially the same result or worse.
You only have to look at some of the names that have gone cheap in the last 3-4 years to confirm that clubs are unwilling to play multiple slow mids at once regardless of the quality. Adams, Mitchell, Parker are some very recent examples but there is a dozen of them. We are hardly alone in trying to find this balance.
