Re: Afl - w 2024
Izzy G was imo poor in some games this year & last year. Tendency to kick straight to oppo, often well beaten 1 on 1. She was good vs Freo & has been ok in patches this year & prior years. Perhaps the new contract will give her the confidence to blossom. I think she has the skills, just needs to be more reliable and calm. I think we have making of a much improved backline now with Kimber, Gorham etc. In past it’s been a hiding to nothing being in our backline (or forward line for that matter). So that will help too. Go Granty!!

Gorham and Kimber look like solid talls and Buttifant looks like an excellent interceptor. Not sure how Grant got a game all year in front of Eleanor Brown if I'm honest. There are better options than Grant deep and we lacked run off half back. Should have played Brown.
Being the Director of Football's Daughter does have its perks though.
But then again, I'm an Internet poster and Bevo is a premiership coach so draw your own conclusions.

As I mentioned some posts back it may be more beneficial to move her up the ground.

That’s ridiculous . Being related to someone has nothing to do with it, that’s not how things work in football nowadays.
You say 44 games is enough to know but we hear experts in AFL say it takes 50 games to get a proper read.
She has had the hardest position to play at our club the last two years battling top forwards in a side that has had no one else to support her.
This year is the only year we seemed to have started to build some sort of backline.
I don’t think she will be a star but she will be a solid back in a well structured back line.
Bring back the biff

Re: Afl - w 2024
Grant struggled this season but she still was voted our best player in the coaches award in the last game of the season. She is still only 23.
Whilst everybody would agree that Brown has been the better player in her career, it is unclear why she was not selected at all this season and it is hard to believe that our coaching panel did not have legitimate reasons for this and that they were rather favouring Grant because of who her father is.

You cant say they were favouring her because of her father are u serious and Eleanor has concussion issues that is why she hasn't been playing.

Elsa wasn't selected this season because she was taking the long road back from her concussion issues.

Read the thread man - I have already said I was at the Freo game (last game of the year). Were you there?
I have no idea what Grant has done to deserve TWO more years. She was poor for the majority of the season...fine, give her another season but I simply don't get why we feel the need to give her two years...
This is my #1 dislike about the AFLW - if you dare make any kind of criticism of a player, it's seen as simply running them down...to me, Grant has had heaps of opportunities to show her stuff and has shown very little...in the last q vs Freo (the game where you said she was "so good") we needed two scores to win. She received the ball on the half back line, rolled out to the boundary and kicked it out on the full. Yep - skill errors happen but she's not a first gamer - we needed her to execute and she simply can't do it.
With regards the tenor of the rest of the comments, I actually don't think she is selected due to nepotism - I think we had no choice because the cupboard was pretty bare - but two more years for Grant seems like at least one too many right now.
What should I tell her? She's going to ask.

I think that is likely the case but the club did not list her as unavailable at any point this season whilst they selected her as an emergency for one game. It's no wonder there is a belief in some of our fans that she was snubbed.

You clearly feel very strongly about it and that's fine I was just thinking aloud. My perogative.
To say the powers that be do not have an influence on votes/ who plays in today's footy is being pretty naive. The President's Daughter won our B&F last season despite two of our other players finishing top 5 in the league B&F. I hear stories about this at other clubs all the time.
My Daughter was beaten in her league MVP basketball awards by the rep coach's Daughter despite my kid scoring more and playing less games. Happens all the time.
I should have prefaced my comment with a wink emoji I guess. I'm just struggling to understand how she gets two tbh.
If 44 games does not provide a big enough window I'm not sure what we're looking at. It's rare for AFLW players to play 50 games.
But then again, I'm an Internet poster and Bevo is a premiership coach so draw your own conclusions.
