Shame, it had the makings on an enthralling encounter. We would need a minor miracle to be able to win it now but they do happen.

Didn’t stay up to watch it but what a win. For all the crap that Cummins cops he is one damn fine cricketer. Awesome stuff.

Stokes’ declaration was bizarre. Probably lost them the game. With Root on 118 and a 40 odd partnership it will go down as one of the most bizarre, in fact one of the worst, declarations in the history of the game. Stokes probably won’t cop much criticism over it, but really should. If this were Cummins other ex-players would be baying for his blood.

What a win after some disappointing batting performances.

It's an unbelievable result. I thought we would have need at least two 50's from the remaining batsman along with Khawaja to get us over the line but in the end it was a real team performance and well led by Cummins.

What a win! Lasted a little into Carey's time at the crease but couldn't keep going.

England's performance versus ours reminds me of that scene in Raiders of the Lost Arch where the guy does all these fancy sword tricks and Indiana just shoots him with a pistol. England can have their trick shots, unconventional field settings and ill advised declarations, we'll just keep it simple.

The gushing over England's play was tiresome all test, it was as if they were streets ahead. I hope this one really hurts them because I'm already sick of their bullshit and disrespect towards the world champions even if I do like the aggressive way they go about trying to win.

I agree the gushing is way over the top but I genuinely believe that England are trying to save test cricket under McCullum. The long form of the game has received a shot in the arm the last 12 months - there have been some amazing matches, all of which have involved the Poms. Test cricket is cooked if the game continues to descend into tiresome and dull draws, or uncompetitive teams outside of Australia, England and India because the money is not there for any other test playing nation. Truth be told, it's probably cooked regardless but at least McCullum won't die wondering - the reality is that this test would have been a draw without England's attacking mindset.

For mine, the decision not to take the new ball immediately after Carey was dismissed changed the game. Australia still needed 50-odd at the time but keeping Root on with the old ball saw him get smacked for a couple of sixes next over and the momentum changed.

Also Ollie Robinson is a bit of a dickhead for goading the Australian tail by saying they have 3 number 11's - that comment aged very poorly very quickly.

For all the criticism Cummings copped for his field placing, he got it right in the end. As long as England doesn’t go back into its shell and become defensive and over cautious, this is going to be a great series.

I turned it off when Khawaja went out, was already getting very late and didn't want to forgo any more sleep just to watch us lose. How wrong I was! Amazing effort from Cummins and Lyon to get us over the line.

It is an especially improbable victory with no contribution from our numbers 3 and 4 and also considering how our captain is a class A moron and the English leader is the greatest cricketing genius to ever grace the field.

Time will tell if the prodigy from Christchurch dropped the Ashes.

Well the one thing we can say about the tactics by England to push the scoring and take risks is it can make for a fantastic finish.

                          Should be a fascinating series.

Was mostly asleep on the couch 12-2, and then saw every ball after Cam Green went out. So glad I did. Brilliant win.

A 4th inning run chase should never be undersold. One of the great test matches.

We haven't won many tests when chasing anything over 200.

I stayed up and watched every ball and am paying for it now, but geez it was worth it. Previous Aussie teams would have lost that game ... there was a lot of guts and determination grinding out that win.

All of our last innings I'm screaming at the tv 'why aren't we going for it?' Then Cummins came in ... oh my god, what an innings. Cool as a cucumber. So glad I stayed up and watched.
