Re: Australia v West Indies Summer 2024 - Test, ODI and T20

Just watched the mini, pretty disrespectful effort from Marnus after watching one a bit back of a good length get big on Smith. Joseph was bowling at 140 plus......not a slouch in any sense.

I'm really not sure on Labuschagne. The guy early in his career was kissed on the dick in terms of dropped catches against opposition that should have been better, and it's made him look better than what I think he is. Not saying he should be dropped, just that I want him to be a bit more resilient.
    TF is this?.........Obviously you're not a golfer.

Despite some consistent scores this summer I've been really disappointed with Labuschagne given the way and the timing of when he is dismissed. I agree with Jee that I don't want him dropped, not that we would do that, but I hope someone is pointing out to him every time that he isn't doing the team any favours by not tightening up when it's best for the team. Dismissals in the last over of a session or straight after another is dismissed is a strong indicator that on occasions he's batting more for himself than the team.

I am over watching Smith stay at the crease, Looking at the pitch and shaking his head every time he goes out and keeps shaking his head all the way to the boundary.
He was caught fair and square by a good ball.
The respect the bowler has for him, how about Smith respect his dismissal and the bowler.

I know its a small sample size but looks like Smiths technique is finally catching up with him.
Just looked like he was moving way too much yesterday. He got a good ball but in the lead up his head fell over a bit with the straighter balls.
Hopefully will be back in the runs but I would like to see him go back to his set-up against India a couple of summers ago, very still at the crease and looked solid.

It wasn't a great advertisement for the promotion to the top of the order but these quirky movements have become more evident in the last couple of years.

Has he walked off the pitch yet, or is he still loitering around shaking his head and practicing what he should have done?

Smith is just as bad - honestly, just farken get off the ground. The match referee should fine any player who doesn't walk straight off after getting dismissed (referrals aside).

Smith got himself into a huge tangle with that big step across the stumps yesterday. If you look at the point of dismissal, his back foot is a good half-metre outside off-stump, both feet are in the air and he's completely front on. He's always been liable to being squared up on the back foot with how front-on he gets, but it was an awful spot he got himself into.

I think he's become hyper-focused with scoring on the leg-side and he's getting so far across his stumps to create scoring opportunities that it's getting him into trouble. I'd also love to see his 'leave' percentage this summer. Smith at his best leaves the ball a lot - and he would've left that ball yesterday at his best. It forces the bowler to straighten up to him and then creates those leg-side scoring opportunities. The Smith we're seeing today is trying to force those opportunities by walking further and further across his stumps.

I think Smith's tinkering too much at the moment and needs to slow down, simplify things and get back to what made him so good.

Completely agree and I think that's always been in Marnus, as Jee points out, it's just that a lot of those opportunities went to grass. I think some regression to the mean was always expected in terms of his output. For mine, he's just not an 'average 50+ in Test cricket' level talent. He's a good player no doubt, but he's also pretty flighty at the crease and prone to brain fades.

Remember when Kemar came out here on his first tour, hit Ponting and stamped himself as the leader of the attack? Might be seeing that baton being handed to Shamar Joseph. He's raw but he bowls a terrific length with just that hint of away movement. Lot to like.

Need runs from Carey here and I think this pitch should suit him. He's a good player on slow pitches.

The Windies have been excellent today. Terrific lengths, have made Australia play, extracted everything from the pitch and taken their chances. That was a great move from Roach to bring the slip up.

5/129. Gee our batting s brittle. It is great to see the Windies be competitive but really our batters should be well on top. Noting that the Windies bowlers and fielding is (incl captaincy) is really good so far in this match

pretty pathetic batting except for Head and Ussi

Not many of the wickets so far has been due to good bowling. Smith could have easily left it, Ussie shouldn't have been chasing a delivery that was so wide, Labuschagne was set-up to hook in the air. Green's delivery was a decent one but Marsh and Carey's were just average deliveries and nothing special.
