Congrats to Starc. 350 test wickets is amazing
They will get beaten badly but the West Indies have had the balls to play young kids and they have found a couple of gems already.
I like what I see and I hope to hell they become a decent test team in the near future . Must admit it’s seriously hard not to like West Indian cricketers in any era.

Why on Earth would they not have an agreement for Australia to bat first. Ridiculous.

Because the West Indies team couldn’t last 3 days in the field.

Decent partnership between Da Silva and Hodge. Hopefully they can continue this and set up a reasonable total.

Bummer Da Silva got out. 149 run partnership. Excellent work. Pitch does look like a batting wicket and not a great deal of movement from the pink ball under lights.

At least this is a competitive score.

Jolly good show from the West Indies in the second and third sessions. Overall a good day of test cricket.

Would have loved to have seen one of Da Silva or Hodge go on with it, but they did plenty to keep the match interesting.

                      I went. Just got home.
Great fightback, after losing 5 wickets in the first session, I thought they were going to be all out by dinner break.
Credit to Da Silva and Hodge. A shame they weren't able to convert into 3 figures.

Nice. Hope you had a good day. Test cricket is great when it is competitive.
Surprised that was a record crowd for Day 1 of a test at the Gabba v WI. Would have thought the test series in 1984/5 or 1988/89 drawn bigger crowds - probably more to do with scheduling than anything else.

Hope the tail can put on another 30 odd runs.

Interesting article about the inequalities of international cricket and how it is dominated by the big 3 nations. No wonder teams like the West Indies struggle when they receive zero revenue from touring other nations. Surely the model needs to change for test cricket (or international cricket) to continue. Otherwise we will just be left with a few tests, world cups and a whole heap of franchised T20 leagues.

Something you don't think about is the cost of touring and bringing out three teams (test, ODi, T20). Tour costs let alone trying to pay the players.

                              My thoughts /ideas ..
I think it’s time some T20 money is put back into test cricket, eg 30% of revenue , the players are paid way too much, set a salary cap of around 5 million maximum 300k a player, 15 players in a squad. 1 international each team.
If your picked to play for your country you must play or risk a whole tournament suspension.
Test cricket supported other cricket for 100 years it’s time they paid it back.
I’m not sure what wage test cricketers are on but it needs to be lifted so it competes at least.
Also some sort of rule you must play each cricket test nation at least once every 3-4 years .
Of course this all just off the top of my head but I hope you all get the idea of what I’m trying to say.
                              We need test cricket.

Well, 300 is a decent score from the Windies even if it's a good batting pitch, the humidity and dew point is quite high and it's been very overcast all day meaning the ball will hoop around a bit, might get quite a few chances in the slips cordon.

There are also a few cracks starting to form and we bat last, could get interesting.
