    Gout Gout

This kid deserves his own thread.

Has just broken a National Record that has stood since 1968 (the late great Peter Norman). This lad is 16 and the fastest man over 200m - 20.04 secs. Faster than Usain Bolt when he was 17.

His 100m time isn?t shabby either. 10.17. The sixth fastest Australian time ever.

I was thinking of starting an Athletics thread but you're right he deserves one outright.

        Great thread.

I have been following his progress over the past year or so.

His 100m heat yesterday was next level - seriously his last 50m he didn’t even look like he touched the ground.
More of an In Bruges guy?

Felt like he won by 50m in a 100m race. Never seen such domination.

Let's face it - we haven't had a talent like this EVER.

The national sprint coaches are about to earn their money.
What should I tell her? She's going to ask.

I saw some comments that further improvement will come once he starts getting out of the blocks better.
There was also talk that he should focus more on the 200 and 400mtr events.

What a talent, kind of bitter sweet for me but super exciting at the same time as he pipped my old school teacher's record (Peter Norman) yesterday, have always been a big fan of the track and field so this is massive.

Mr Norman was our PE teacher back in late 80s I think it was.
He was an amputee I believe at that stage but it's a foggy memory.

He developed gangrene after having an operation and while an amputation was on the cards for a while I believe he ended up keeping his leg. It did however lead to a pain killer addiction and drinking problems along with severe depression.

I went to Footscray High and we did our trade subjects at Willy Tech on Friday mornings. The highlight was being taught to hotwire a car one day when some materials didn't arrive and we couldn't continue with the project we were working on. IIRC the teacher's exact words were "what can we do instead? Bugger it, I probably shouldn't do this but has anyone ever hotwired a car?"

BTW I believe we are using the wrong name. His name is actually Guot Guot but there was some confusion with the family name when they arrived in Australia.

In that case wouldn't his name be pro-nounced as (Sounding like) Goot Goot then rather than Gout Gout a double dose of Rheumatoid Arthritis?
