AFL has nothing to worry about - it may be the World game, but boy it doesn't have a tenth of the skill, excitement, enjoyment (or scoring) of our game
Soccer players are soft - go down constantly as if shot, dive more than Lloyd, and score about much as the nerds from Beauty & the Geeks
Although a bad challenge it wasn't worthy of a straight red.
The ref has a bit of history with being quick to pull the cards out, but I agree it wasn't worthy of a red. I like how he gave the to German divers reds, if only he umpired last years prelim
Did the dirty double with the 2am F1 race from Montreal (Really entertaining race even though Webber finished 5th) then went down to Birrarung Marr and watched with the 10-11,000 crowd..no major problems a flare or two..good atmosphere, woulda been awesome if we had scored in the first half though. Oh well, lets hope we can scrape up a win v Ghana & another v Croatia..
Edit: Now to hit the hay and hope im not in the worst of worst moods tomorow
That was painful viewing. Losing 4-0(could have been more) and Cahills red card.
Amazing performance by the Deutch though considering it was their youngest side in 76 years. They didn't miss Ballack at all.
It was depressing looking at it from an Australian point of view. We look miles away, in class on the field and structure. It was a real shell shock.
Can we beat Ghana without Cahill?
Debacle was the word I'd use.
Isn't the offside trap kind of pointless if you just let guys get get in behind you from onside positions? Neill and Moore were embarrassed, by the opposition and their own whingeing at the ref, although they had little help with no pressure on the guys delivering the ball.
The Germans were fantastic and that shows exactly how far we are off the pace. Their skill and the ability to time their runs just made us look awful. Old and slow across the park.
As far as whether we can beat Ghana without Cahill, I'd be surprised if we score a goal from anything other than a penalty. We lack options and imagination in the forward half, Kewell's clearly not fit if he didn't even warm-up and obviously Kennedy is out of favour.
We can obviously beat the next 2 opponents but on form you'd have to say we'll struggle.
All credit to Verbeek for getting us here but I don't think anyone is going to miss him greatly.
