Gutted by the Aussie result. Wiltshire - CHIP IT OVER! Ahhhh - oh well. What can you do? I liked the look of some of the newer guys and here's hoping we have something to build on for the next WC.
Not sure if anyone knows of any world class youngsters kicking around who would be ready to step up in the next WC?
I was at Milan airport in transit and can you believe that in the home of AC Milan and Inter there was not a single TV in the public area that wasn't being used for advertising?
I went to the business class lounge and pleaded with the girl on the desk to let me in to watch and she did.
We got a lot of sympathy from those watching with me about the red card.

He should have sliced it through like a knife thru butter.
New Zealand 1 Italy 1. Incredible!!! The goalkeeper Mark Paston was the star. Some of his saves were outstanding.
Well done to the All Whites. Two draws from two games so far. No one would have dreamed that would happen. Will be more amazing if they win their next match and progress through.
Brasil win 3-1 over the Ivory Coast. The tactics by the Ivory Coast were really disgraceful. It was bordering on thuggery towards the end. Kaka being sent off was a terrible decision.
But two wins against the coasters(west and Ivory) rounds off a great Sunday Night/Monday morning
PAR - 4pt - +2

Games remaining are Paraguay v New Zealand & Italy v Slovakia.
a) If Paraguay win or draw they will qualify.
b) If Paraguay loses & Italy & Slovakia draw, Paraguay qualify.
c) If Paraguay loses & Italy wins, Italy & New Zealand will qualify.
d) If Paraguay loses & Slovakia wins then the scores are crucial. Slovakia would need a 5 goal swing (win 3-0 & Paraguay lose 2-0) to overtake them on goal difference. If it was a 4 goal swing, they would also be level on goal difference so it would depend on who has scored the most goals. If that's level, then Paraguay would qualify via head to head courtesy of its 2-0 win over Slovakia).
e) If Italy or New Zealand wins they qualify.
f) If Italy or New Zealand loses they are eliminated.
g) If Italy draws & New Zealand loses, Italy & Paraguay qualify.
h) If New Zealand draws & Italy loses Slovakia & Paraguay qualify.
i) If Italy draws & New Zealand draws, then they would be level on points, goal difference & head to head. They would then need separating firstly by who scored the most goals & if that's still level, the drawing of lots!

You would think Portugal are through. It would need for them to lose to Brazil & the Ivory Coast to defeat North Korea (both quite conceivable), but there would also need to be a 10 goal swing for the Ivory Coast to nose ahead on goal difference.

Remaining games are Chile v Spain & Switzerland v Honduras.
Its tight, 3 teams within 3 points at the top & 3 teams within 3 points at the bottom & there's not much separating all 4 teams on goal difference.
a) Chile only needs a draw against Spain to qualify.
b) If Chile loses to Spain & Switzerland defeats Honduras, then Chile, Span & Switzerland will all have 6 points. Spain would progress on goal difference. If both results were 1-0, then Chile would also progress on goal difference. If there was a 3 goal swing then Chile & Switzerland would have an identical goal difference, but Chile would progress via head to head, courtesy of its 1- win over Switzerland. If there was a 4 goal swing, then Switzerland would qualify.
c) If Spain draws & Switzerland draws Spain progresses on goal difference.
d) If Switzerland's result betters that of Spain (ie Spain draw & the Swiss win or Spain lose & the Swiss draw/win) Switzerland will progress.
e) If Spain loses & Honduras wins both would have 3 points (along with Switzerland, but would trail Honduras on goal difference), but Honduras would need a 4 goal swing to overtake the Spaniards on goal difference (3 would tie things up, but Spain would still qualify courtesy of head to head).

I spent today in Lisbon with my Portugese distributor.
As I was going through the new products with almost their entire staff, at 11.30 the owner of the company stood up and said, "we all have to go now". We jumped into a couple of cars to the waterfront to a pub and watched Portugal smash the North Koreans.
The atmosphere was electric. PORT-OO-GUL! PORT-OO-GUL! PORT-OO-GUL!
We got back to the office at 3 and I had to leave to catch my plane to Madrid. I got to the hotel here in Madrid about half time to find the bar chockers and we did it all again.

I spent a fair amount of time in Spain/ Portugal for Euro 2004 (shit, it was that long ago) and it was a brilliant place to be... they certainly are very passionate fans.

I think you will find most if not all teams in Europe are passionate about their football.
