I'm going to acknowledge this post because I'm scared the Australian public will not give this the recognition it deserves.
What Liz Cambage has done for her sport by dunking that ball is going to be phenomenal. Not only to get the dunk but she also did it in a half court game, not a fast break. I know the lane was reasonably clear but still impressive.
If you read some WNBA and othe basketball websites they are already talking about the feat and mentioning the win later.
(Dig)....imo this play (and the couple of elbows she threw in the game) sends out a statement that she isn't there to make up the numbers or contempt with finishing 3rd.
Love to say more but I'm off to get my "I - heart - Liz" tattoo.

Geez can I say i am of the opposite of most of you guys it's a dream to be there and to get there is a feat in itself I'm proud of people who just make it to the games a medal of any sort is exceptional, Australia is very small in population compared to the rest of the world. Do you all forget the number one rule about the olympics it's not about winning its about how you compete and most of you are sounding like spoilt brats. The press put so
Much pressure on these athletes then when they lose they bag them why ,why disgraceful in my opinion.

I think most posts here have been positive... there had been mention of great wins, events people are looking forward to, the Cambage dunk etc... If anyone should get your message that just getting there if a great in itself, it's the mentally fragile swim team... Carrying on because they came 2nd, wondering whether their family will still love them

They are the ones that need to get a grip.

You could say the exact same about the Bulldogs? It's a dream to make the afl, just compete (contested possession etc), it's not about wining.
You have to remember Ledge as with gameday comments here, you get a lot of emotion in them.
My biggest issue is, the government spending on elite sports has been over half a billion in between olyimpic years. So it is somewhat of an investment our country has in our olyimpic athletes. So to provide that sort of money to someone who is just happy to make up the numbers doesn't sit well with me. Especially when small clubs (like one my boys play footy for) are really struggling.

Where will our next gold medal come? I think with the swimming team we underestimate how good our swimming team was at the previous Olympics. Prior to the 2000 games we did not win more than 10 gold medals. I think it's the quality of the swimmers and their attitudes that have resulted in a poor showing. The media doesn't help as well. It is with our Olympic swimming team like the British media especially with their national football team and how they just turn on them.

Spot on. In 1984 we won 4 gold medals; In 1988 we won 3; In Barcelona we won 7; In Atlanta 9; Sydney 16; Athens 17;Beijing 14.

It is a disappointing games by modern standards.

Great to watch the 100m this morning with 7 sub 10seconds and Bolt breaking the Olympic record. What a great athlete.

                    Perspective: Federer only won silver.

So? For the tennis players, Olympic gold is the 5th best thing they can achieve this year.
Our 1954 premiership players are our heroes, and it has to be said that Charlie was their hero.

How great was it for Steven Solomon to make the final. Stefenson is made to look like a bigger fool.

Great effort. I also heard that the athletics coach also didn't want Solomon on the team.

On a side note I understand were Stefenson is coming from, but there are ways to do things and way's not to do things. Stefenson certainly went the wrong way about it.
