There’s a reason Smith was such a weird unit last year. Are we shocked Marra is playing similar (albeit more extreme) games?

exactly. They have got that tag, unfortunately. But that's the way to stop all that. Mandatory stand down. If the AFL determines the minimum standards are not met. Then again. The AFL has some dicey operating procedures themselves. I want INDEPENDANT AUDITS done by WOOFERS god damnit.!

Id be spewing if some deadshit other club is behind the scenes playing games and saying do this and that and we will take you. Best way to stop that is an instant 2 year stand down out of the AFL system.
If his issues are not Mental Health, an injury, or addiction and he is just playing games, then he should not be paid full stop

I'm as cynical as every other Gen Xer - it's baked into every fibre of our being - but Smith is an elite athlete who has many years of runs on the board being meticulous (probably too much, to the point of obsession) in all aspects of his vocational preparation. Smith is a massive douchebag but he is undeniably a serious professional AFEL footballer.

JUH is a completely different story, and professionally he is on the opposite end of the spectrum. Probably a nicer and more likeable person than Smith but professionally clubs will be very much buyer beware and hesitant, even on the cheap.

Haven't really been following this whole situation too closely but at this point I just want a solid year period where we don't have to deal with some form of drama surrounding one of our players, feels like we've gone from Dunkley wanting out to Hunter, Smith and now JUH doing whatever he is.

As a fan it gets tiring.

              AFL.COM.AU

WESTERN Bulldogs forward Jamarra Ugle-Hagan has taken a leave of absence from the club as he deals with personal issues.

Ugle-Hagan has not played this season and has only trained periodically as he deals with off-field matters.

In a short statement on Tuesday, the club has announced the 23-year-old will take some time away from the club, with the decision a mutual one between the player, his family, his management, the club and the AFL.

"Jamarra's health and wellbeing remains the absolute priority and he will be given whatever time he needs," said Bulldogs footy boss Sam Power.

"We will continue to support Jamarra throughout this period."

              More to come ...

So are we moving him to the inactive list as a result of this? Will we still be paying his full salary or will we be able to offload some?

Is this any different to the leave of absence he has been on since the week leading up until last year's elimination final? I wonder if he is also taking a leave of absence from the company he keeps after dark.

I wonder how this statement and the decision is materially different to what the current arrangements have been.

Message wise it's been "flexible work arrangements" to a "leave of absence." Does that change any of the club's obligations to him, long term injury list status etc.

We have essentially moved from a flexible training arrangement that the club and Marra's management had in place to a complete acknowledgement that the flexible training arrangement has now finished.
To me it's a clear step backwards from any potential return and it provides more clarity than we previously had that a return in the next month or two is very unlikely.

I believe that with the current AFLPA rules there's no real way we can not pay him, even if not fit or not going to training.

He's gone from a 1% chance to return this season to a 0.01% chance.

                              You saying there's a chance?

It likely means the entire club is laser-focused on season 2025 and that all off-field distractions need to be removed from our core day-to-day function, which is winning games of footy.
