I'd like to bring Buss in and play him on Cadman, Lobb and Jones back with JOD forward, prefer JOD Back but he moves forward due to team balance, Buku sub with Hynes omitted and Darcy Inj, Buss in as well as VDM if he's good to go.👍 1Comment

His 1st year was a right off as he was coming off a shoulder reco and wasn’t ready. So he’s pretty much played 3 games in his 2nd year and because he can’t get a game ahead of an experienced key defensive group we give up?
I cannot agree any less with what you’ve stated.👍 3😘 1Comment

In: Gardiner, Baker, Laith (if right)
Out: Darcy, Hynes, McNeil (if injured)
I think the Lobb-Jones-JOD trio is good enough to win finals, so I'd be trying pretty desperately to keep them together rather than shift it around.
Gardiner played the forward/second ruck position in pre-season, will give us more in the ruck than Buku and is mature enough to throw himself around. He's not an ideal option, but I'd rather try and get some consistency into our back 6 and he's potentially a good foil for Naughts in a more defensive/decoy role.
I would've picked Croft but he's not quite there.
Hynes has had a good taste but I like Baker as a utility who brings some dash and grit.
I don't know how fit gardy is but selecting him as forward/ruck is probably the least disruptive option.
Can we get josh Bruce back in the mid season draft?😂 1Comment

Keep JOD behind the footy for mine, and let's see how Khamis and Naughton go together forward. We can always change Khamis and JOD around, or Swing Lobb forward if we need to.
Like any week getting multiple avenues to goal will be key. I don't see how weakening our defence will make that happen.TF is this?.........Obviously you're not a golfer.Comment

If we want another tall in the side, our options are basically Gardner (could be KPF/R2 or KPD), Buss (KPD), Poulter (playing as a leading forward), or Croft/Smith who aren't ready. I would like to see Buss in but don't think they'll move Lobb permanently (even though he's the next best tall forward on the list)...possibly they would move JOD.
If we don't care whether the inclusion is tall, there still aren't many natural forwards waiting in the wings.
Arty isnt getting anywhere near it.
Baker has been playing defence - he could play wing and release Davidson to the forward line, but Doc Davo has been fantastic.
Anthony Scott has played a half forward role for us in the past - I worry about his concussion history but he's on the list, so it's as good a time as any to pick him.
Jaques is a defender, and putting him in a forward line already containing Hynes and Dolan would be dangerous.
I think we will go with Poulter for Darcy. Possibly Scott for Hynes.
Whatever it is, I have faith that we will have a plan, the players will understand the plan, and we will be up for the fight on the weekend.Comment

Lachlan Smith could be a smokey has had a good start for the few VFL games this year although the umps had something against him on the weekend.

Are you saying don't replace the Darcy role? If VDM and Harmes are still out injured...who do we bring in to join our forward group?

Specifically, if we maintain our defensive structure, agree we're strengthened in the middle with Bont coming back into the fold and having some two way cover with Khamis and JOD then we can play a slightly different way to counter Darcy missing.
On the day we play Bont forward a few more minutes a quarter. We can bring in a defender and release JJ to the forward role he played a few years ago to put more speed into the area. There's options, and as long as we're all on the same page with how we structure the ground it's either going to be OK or it isn't.
What I don't want to see is a break glass in case of emergency player like Gardner coming in at this point and lining up forward of the ball, and being completely shit at it. Sure, if it was English out then I'd say Lobb to the ruck, and Gardner to defence. But it isn't that and I think we can mix things around to cover our forward mix.
So out Darcy, in whoever is versatile and quick enough to give us options, and away we go!
As for your suggested changes, I'd like to know why we'd be dropping Hynes given he's more than tripled his impact this week versus last. Whilst a bit different in style, after two games he and Dolan are pretty much on par so why not let him get further into the game? I'm also cool with Poulter for Darcy and leaving everything else the way it is. We just won by 71 points, not sure we need to start messing around with things too much.TF is this?.........Obviously you're not a golfer.👍 2Comment

JOD and Khamis are decent options forward to maybe play a role, help block for the key targets or the try and occupy a Sam Taylor or Harris Andrews best they can, but to rely on these guys to kick 2,3,4 goals some weeks and help win us games, which without Darcy, Jamarra and Weightman is what we will need them to do, is a huge ask. Part of my thinking with Lobb forward is he can be a target and maybe not every week but once or twice a month kick you 4 goals and look like a match winner next to Naughton.
If we roll with JOD in place of Darcy, our midfield will really need to contribute a ton of goals each week like they did on Sunday night. Some games we know Naughty is not going to be on too or well held by a defender, i'm guessing those weeks are going to be a tough slog up forward.Comment

I think managing the reduced workloads of Hynes, Dolan, JJ, Davidson, Bont (and probably VDM, Harmes, Treloar when they return) has a tipping point - McNeil also only played 58% of the game. It means that we have more guys playing big minutes to cover them, which can contribute to the fatigue we saw against Freo and the Lions. If bringing in a Baker/Scott/Poulter meant we could manage TOG better, I'd be okay with that.
When I was looking at TOG, Ryley Sanders played 86%, and covered the most ground of any bulldog. He has played a few good games this year, but this felt like a bit of a breakout.👍 2Comment
