    2011 Draft Order

The first 18 picks have been determined for the 2011 NAB AFL Draft in November.

Obviously these selections can change as a result of activity during trade week, but for the time being this is how the first 18 picks look (I'll update in due course):

    1. Greater Western Sydney

    2. Greater Western Sydney

    3. Greater Western Sydney

    4. Gold Coast

    5. Greater Western Sydney

    6. Port Adelaide

    7. Greater Western Sydney

    8. Brisbane

    9. Greater Western Sydney

    10. Adelaide

    11. Greater Western Sydney

    12. Melbourne

    13. Greater Western Sydney

    14. Richmond

    15. Greater Western Sydney

    16. Fremantle

    17. Western Bulldogs

    18. North Melbourne

    * As a result of Gold Coast's introduction last year a number of clubs still have selections they didn't use in 2010. Of those, only Brisbane will use their selection (at the end of round 1) in 2011, unless they trade it beforehand.

Geelong, Richmond & West Coast have opted to shelve their compensation picks for at least another 12 months. Gold Coast also chose to bank the three compensation picks it received back during trade week. Clubs can choose to use the picks in any draft until 2014.

Compensation doesn't work like that, you don't get one of GWS' picks. Any pick would be separate to the draft order as listed above. In addition, any first round compensation picks awarded this year, if used this year, become end of first round picks as per the rules.

Yeah true, forgot about that. I'd imagine we'd get a decent 1st round draft pick though somewhere in that range..

Now I understand why Melbourne lost to PA on the weekend.

    The options are;

Band 1: Mid first round selection (taken after those who missed finals, except in 2011 when it would be an end of first round pick) and first round pick (taken after pick for finishing position, except in 2011 where it would be at end of first round)

Band 2: First round pick (taken after pick for finishing position, except in 2011 where it would be at end of first round)

Band 3: End of first round pick.

Either way, if we use whatever compensation we get this year in the draft, it will become end of first round draft picks, somewhere in the mid to late 20's range.

We would be mad to use it this year.

Didn't we try and do that with the Harbrow pick?

I guess it's just I don't have much faith in the guys in charge in trade week.
