It went from a very short list to a very long very quickly.

    Re: Injury List 2024

Cody Weightman and Alex Keath remain a chance to return against Carlton at Marvel Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Weightman was left out of the travelling squad due to a groin issue and needs to train this week to be considered ahead of the bumper clash.

“Although he came through the Round 16 game well, in the days following the game, Cody Weightman had some persisting groin soreness,” Head of Sports Medicine, Chris Bell said.

“Not wanting to take any risks with Cody, he didn’t play on the weekend.

“We will work through a process this week to make sure that he is 100% fit before we consider if he returns to play this weekend.”

Keath has missed an extended period due to a hamstring injury and is in line to return.

“Alex Keath successfully completed a game-like training session on the weekend,” Bell said.

“He is planned to fully train this week, and if he gets through like I expect, his magnet will return to the whiteboard for selection.”

Liam Jones will miss another week due to a medial ligament injury in his knee.

“In the last few minutes of the Round 16 game against North, Liam Jones was involved in an aerial contest and landed heavily,” Bell said.

“The mechanism of this landing has damaged the medial ligament in his knee and scans have confirmed a moderate grade ligament injury.

“Once we get an idea of how fast the ligament is healing over the next 10 days, we will be more accurate with his return to play timeline.”

James Harmes and Kelsey Rypstra will miss multiple weeks after injuries to their hamstrings.

“Kelsey Rypstra and James Harmes had some hamstring tightness off the back of the game last week,” Bell said.

“Kelsey is new into our program and Harmes damaged his hamstring earlier this season.

“It is important that we focus on building some continuity for both players.

“At this stage we have plans in place that will get them back to availability in the next month.”

Jason Johannisen has had a further setback and will miss at least the next month.

“Jason Johannisen was also on track to return to full training an availability this week,” Bell said.

“He has been incredibly diligent since suffering a frustrating hamstring injury when he slipped and over stretched his hamstring during a training incident.

“Unfortunately, Jason has suffered some recurrent tightness in his calf during a return to play training session.

“We will work with JJ to devise a plan that gets him back playing towards the back end of the home and away season.”

James O’Donnell and Aaron Naughton both suffered concussions over the weekend and will be monitored over the next 10 days.

Jordan Croft will miss an extended period with a bone overload to his thigh.

Losing Jones for a month is legit a complete disaster.
But then again, I'm an Internet poster and Bevo is a premiership coach so draw your own conclusions.

Yep. Huge red flags. Not sure I’d re-sign him. Two set backs after the original injury. That’s a prettt clear message his body is sending.

How many games has he missed over the past 3 years? I would say he may do the right thing at year end rather than expect us to give him another year.

If only we'd had the perfect opportunity to blood a promising young genuine key defender a month ago
Keath and Doc are one injury away from a lap around the G in the back of a ute on GF day. Jones is out. JJ might never get 4 more games to celebrate 200.
    Who could've foreseen such calamity????
